Friendships and relationships can be closely seen in the two characters Poppy and Sarah. It is shown how much Poppy cares for Sarah in the gift she gets her, “The album had a purple felt cover, and sewn onto it were little charms and my name in yellow felt letters.” ”And finally an angel to watch over you.” The technique shown in this quote is symbolism, which shows the reader how much strength and love Poppy has for her best friend Sarah. Another two characters that have a close relationship with each other is Virginia and Finn a quote to show this is “we are like Romeo and Juliet” said by Virginia which is her trying to compare their relationship to the perfect romantic tragedy of Romeo and Juliet. An example of this is when Mr Piggott says “But what shall we do?” this rhetorical question makes them feel alone now not knowing what to do without their mother as they had to make their own meal now which took hours and was horrible.
