Abraham Lincoln was born on February the 12 of 1809 in Hardin County Kentucky ("Abraham Lincoln Biography."). He was born to Thoman Lincoln and Nancy Hanks both were proud farmers of Hardin County. Abraham was born in a small cabin near “Sinking Spring Farm” ("Abraham Lincoln Biography."). He later moved with his family to a large farm by Knob Creek ("Abraham Lincoln Biography."). Abraham learned to read on that farm and also learned to become a diligent young man by helping with chorea and other work around the farm. Since a young age Lincoln disliked slavery and even moved because of it, he moved to Indiana to work on a farm with his father. While in the legislature Lincoln became the right hand man to John T. Stuart. Stuart is the individual who pushed Lincoln to study law and helped him through the legislature. In 1839 Lincoln meet Mary Todd and would later be called Mary Todd Lincoln and future wife. They would marry in 1840 have 4 children, but only Robert would survive. In 1854 Congress passed the Kansas-Nebraska Act, and this act allowed each state to decide whether they wanted slavery or not (McPherson). This act created the Republican Party and Abraham Lincoln knew that this would be the right opportunity to go forward in politics. Lincoln would join the Republican Party in 1856 and run for president later on on. In 1860 Abraham Lincoln ran for the presidency and during the Republican National Convention it became clear that Abraham Lincoln would win the race due to his policies being superior and just plain better (McPherson). Lincoln was in support of a better national infrastructure and supported abolition (McPherson). His cabinet was strong and he needed a stronger government when even before his inauguration many southern states as many as 7 southern states were threatening to secede from the Union
