Romeo, Benvolio and Mercutio we’re arranging to set off for the Capulet Party. However Romeo was still despondent over Rosaline and refused to look at, or dance, with any other woman. Mercutio attempted to talk Romeo into it, but he continued stalling them and wasting time by acting moody. Mercutio was so fed up with Romeo’s whining that he began to mock him for his false love, which vexed Romeo into going to the Capulet ball. Mercutio displayed his character as being someone who was acerbic. His sharp comebacks and witty remarks about Romeo being shallow really hit the mark. This shows he was very intolerant when putting up with Romeo because he mocked his passion for Rosaline. When Mercutio was speaking with him, he ridiculed Romeo

In the second feud between the Capulets and the Monagues, Mercutio’s words “Oh calm, dishonorable vile submission” shows his loyalty to Romeo even when things have become tough (Shakesphere Act 3 Scene ). “Oh calm vile submission” means “ this is dishonorable having Romeo fight even when he does not want to, let me fight instead.” Stating this highlights Mercutio’s loyalty because he refuses to have Romeo dishonored even when it means risking his own life. Romeo does not want to fight Tybalt because he is a close relative and friend to the Capulet’s, and if they fight then there definitely will not be a way for Romeo to marry Juliet. Unfortunately, Mercutio takes this as Romeo just being weak and scared. He steps forward to fight Tybalt, resulting in Mercutio’s death. Mercutio's last words are “Ay, ay, a scratch, a scratch.…

Mercutio is an interesting character. But, a major reason why Mercutio takes part of the blame for the tragedy is his tendency to take risks, or more specifically, the fact that Mercutio decided to partake in a feast held by the Montagues greatest enemy. Although many could argue that this was Benvolio’s idea, it must not be forgotten that Benvolio is the only character in the book that can reason maturely, therefore Benvolio would have eventually changed his mind once he realizes the consequences or risks. But, then there is Mercutio, he openly goes to disregard Romeo’s…

In addition, both characters exist in order to bring out the best of other characters. Scott's recklessness and wildness bring out his girlfriend's empathetic and nurturing side as she helps him after a night out partying and forgives his obvious mistakes. On the other hand, Mercutio's wildness brings out Romeo's fun side and ameliorates his emotional persona, as seen when he convinces Romeo to go to the banquet (Shakespeare I.III). Scott and Mercutio are both characters that, in many ways, drag the spotlight onto themselves by acting spontaneously and recklessly. Scott and Mercutio's personalities entertain the audience; their spontaneity, high-spirits, and redeeming qualities provide a mixture of drama and comedy.…

Therefore turn and draw.” Mercutio does not want to hear anything more, and he just want them to fight. Tybalt intended to fight Romeo because he disliked his presence at the Capulet’s party but after Romeo refuses to fight Mercutio feels the need to fight for him instead. This is not the only time Mercutio is a display of masculinity in the play. As Romeo’s friend he likes to mock him, calling him an petrarchan lover and joking about his version of love. The difference to Romeo is also found when juxtaposing how Romeo and Mercutio speak. For instance, when Romeo talks about the girls he is in love with or has a crush on he talks in poetic sentences.…

In the original play, Mercutio is seen as a normal, intelligent man who is friends with Romeo and a Mercenary for his family. Whereas in the Baz Luhrmann's 'modern' interpretation, he is viewed as a crazy, unintelligent crossdresser that seems to have lost his mind. The Queen Mab scene has been ruined by the modern interpretation of Mercutio as he no longer tells a 'highly imaginative' Queen Mab speech, but instead acts like a fool and sets a mood that greatly contradicts Shakespeare's amazing poetry. This 'modernisation' creates a less relative, incomprehensible Mercutio and Queen Mab scene.…

Mercutio is a man who just loves having fun, being funny, and does not take love too seriously, but Romeo is the complete opposite. Romeo wants his life put together and is very serious, especially about love. He is also over dramatic. While Romeo has just broken the Prince’s demand of no fighting, he then goes to meet Friar Laurence at his cell to find out his punishment. Once Friar Laurence has told Romeo the his punishment for killing Tybalt is banishment Romeo replies with “For exile hath more terror in his look, much more than deah”(III.iii.13-14).…

Romeo and Mercutio are is my favorite foil in Romeo and Juliet. Throughout the play while Romeo is sappy and feeble, Mercutio is making jokes and ridiculous speeches(Act 1 S 4 line: 53 Queen Mab speech and Act 1 S4 line 25-29 “Is love a tender thing? It is too rough, Too rude, too boisterous, and it pricks like a thorn. If love be rough with you, be rough with love; Prick love for pricking, and you beat love down.”) This example demonstrates that Mercutio is a rambling joker that can’t take stuff like “true love” seriously.…

In the play, The Tragedy of Romeo and Juliet, by William Shakespeare, William Shakespeare makes some characters act like social beasts. A social beast is a person who is not civilized and could do things that civilized people do not do. William Shakespeare shows this type of behavior usually in Romeo and his cousin, Benvolio; in his friend, Mercutio; as well as Juliet’s parents, and her cousin, Tybalt.…

Benvolio is a well known character in the play of “Romeo and Juliet” written by William Shakespeare. Benvolio is the cousin of Romeo and also his best friend in this play. Benvolio is helpful, courageous, non-romantic, curious, and caring. There was enjoyment in reading about Benvolio because he is a very different person from other characters in the play. What interest me the most about Benvolio in the play because he is a close friend to Romeo, who is one of the main characters.…

Mercutio knows if Tybalt duels with Romeo, Romeo will most likely lose. So Mercutio protects him by insulting Tybalt by saying “O calm, dishonourable, vile submission” then goes on to say, with a now drawn sword “Tybalt you rat catcher, will you walk” which is a question of a duel. Mercutio doing this is a great act of loyalty toward Romeo. Mercutio’s death by Tybalt adds to his heroic services to Romeo. Romeo shows his act of loyalty back to Mercutio by getting revenge on his soul, he does this by beating Tybalt and overall killing him.…
