Relationship Between Romeo And Juliet

Romeo is characterized as dramatic throughout the story, which leads him into dangerous situations. Romeo’s character is first seen after Rosaline turns him down. He comes into the scene moping and depressed. Of course, this is a completely over dramatic response to girl telling him no. So, Romeo’s original characterization includes dramatic. Further on though, he seems to continue this behavior. After he meets Juliet at the Capulet party, Romeo has the choice to head back home with Benvolio and Mercutio, but instead he explains, “Can I go forward when my heart is here? Turn back, dull earth, and find thy center out.” 2.1.1-2 Saying, how could he possibly leave when everything he loves is here, referring to Juliet. If he wasn’t so dramatic, he probably would have just smiled over the fact that he met someone he liked, but left with his friends knowing they’ll be more parties and people to meet. So through characterizing him as dramatic, Shakespeare shows that Romeo began to find himself in dangerous situations because of the fact that he started out at an extreme level. A little later, Romeo ends up killing Tybalt, a cousin of Juliet. Of course he is punished for this, but because of the circumstance that he is in (Tybalt killing Mercutio right before that) Romeo is just banished from Verona. Normally, the crime he committed would result in his death. Yet, Romeo exclaims, “ There is no world without Verona walls, But purgatory, torture, hell itself.” 3.3.17-18 Instead of appreciating the fact that he wasn’t just set to death, he complains. On top of that, he says that everything outside Verona is like hell. Although it is quite sad that he would be without his family and friends, Romeo would have surely lived a normal life outside of Verona, due to the fact that the surrounding times were almost the
