Relationship Between Romeo And Juliet

Throughout Romeo and Juliet, there are many different viewpoints on marriage and relationships. During the time period of Romeo and Juliet, it is very common to marry and have children in their young teens. The capulet side especially is pushing quite hard to get Juliet married and pregnant with her own children. Juliet is 13 years old at the time of this book. Juliet herself though does not want to marry at this time and feels that she has time to just be herself for a while but no one really listens. Juliet states “It is an hour that I do not dream of” to her mother (Lady Capulet) when she asks what her feelings of marriage. Her mother, however, has quite different viewpoints on the topic. Her mother says that may other girls her age and younger are mothers and happily married. Lady Capulet wants her daughter to be married and feels that they are running out of time. Lady Capulet then tells Juliet that the noble Paris wants to take her as his bride. Paris is a city-boy from a noble family that is a potential lover/husband for Juliet. Paris wants to marry Juliet right away and is told he has to charm her first when invited to the dinner. Paris states “girls younger than she often becomes happy mothers” to Capulet. This shows that Paris feels that Juliet is right to be married and he wants her to be his bride and does not feel that she is too young or has a say. They
