Lost Child In The Woods Analysis

On April 15, 2005, Richard Louv published his book Lost Child in the Woods, a book about the relationship between people and nature. Louv was born in 1945 and dedicated his life to journalism and writing books connecting nature and the community, Lost Child in the Woods being the most well-known and impactful on society. Louv coincidentally was born in 1945, the year when 51 countries were attacking each other (again) in what is commonly known as World War II. Post-war, America had a peace period that focused primarily on making life better for themselves economically and mentally. If the quote were to be placed before the research background, it would still have been interpreted to be cruel, but not to the extent where the audience themselves realize how people are manipulating this research for their own benefit and profit. This manipulation seen by Louv is explained in order to show the separation between people and nature. After quoting Richel, Louv provides a different example from the past to establish once more how marketers and advertisers used nature: “Advertisers already stamp their messages into the wet sands of public beaches.” Louv’s figurative language and imagery allows for his audience to see that these advertisers have already attacked nature. For parents, public beaches are mainly dedicated for their children to swim in the ocean and play in the wet sand. For teachers and other community members, public beaches are meant for relaxing.
