Parents are the first and most important teachers that a child has and they influence a child in many ways. But as the child grows up and attends schools, he meets his teachers and other school members, who play a very important role in academic as well as social development of the child.
Since parents and school are two very critical aspects of a child’s life, it is important for them to work in tandem. A desired relationship building, however, requires efforts of both sides- parents and teachers and it results in well-being of but most of all the child himself.

And, mere communication or a namesake’s relationship between parents and teacher is as good as no relationship between them. Therefore, there is lot of concern regarding presence of a healthy parent-teacher relationship and various authors and researchers have proposed various means and ways for achieving the same.
Both parties viz. teachers and parents will have to take some efforts to establish an effective relationship with each other. The teachers can adopt certain practices like-Greeting the parents cordially and remembering their names. Communicating with parents often and keeping them updated about their ward’s performance. The teacher should also patiently listen to child’s parents and discuss about any issues that he may have with them at home, and if possible should advise them about the same. If the child has performed well in certain school or classroom activity, the teacher should inform the parents and if possible should even invite them and congratulate them in person and celebrate together. However, the aim of all this is to keep the parents on the same page about their child and not keep them in dark. For this, the parents should insist on the time of meetings or conferences keeping in mind the teacher’s convenience. The parents ought to have a courteous behaviour towards the teacher and not become defensive or offensive at the mention of some negative aspect of their child’s personality. They should be supportive and should take teacher’s remarks and suggestions very seriously, and should work on them.
Summary
A healthy relationship and constant productive communication between parents of a child and his/her school can prove to be beneficial for all the parties viz. the school, the parents and most importantly the child itself.
It benefits the parents as they get to know more about their child’s performance and they appreciate the school’s involvement towards their child.
