One of the main limitations was the fact that the sample size was quite small with only 172 individuals participating in the study. This may have resulted in data that doesn’t properly represent the population that was being targeted. Another limitation could be that it was a self-report questionnaire, which only allows a single overview of one’s relationship satisfaction. It does not account for observations, or outside sources which may also be able to account for the results of their perceived relationship satisfaction. This may be the mediating variable that truly determines if one’s parental divorce affect their future relationship satisfaction with their romantic partners. In future research it would be helpful to record their feelings about the divorce and how they believe it may have affected their attitude toward future marriage. Another implication may be that since divorce has become so common, its impact on future aspects of their children’s lives may in fact be diminishing. Future studies should focus on how the divorce was carried out rather than just if parental divorce occurred.
