Author of “Becoming Members of Society,” author Aaron Devore say, “We acquire gender roles so early in life and so thoroughly that it is hard to see them as the result of lessons taught and learned.” Devore Provide in his article, different age development and when kids are able to understand certain parts of gender. Devore believes that the idea of child’s gender is not as developed as adults, and that children cannot determine their gender, but can only be determined on the basis of such things as; clothes, hair and style, but not something like the genitals. Devore say, “the ideology which the schema grows out of the innate predisposition of males toward aggression and dominance, which is assumed to flow inevitably from evolutionary and biological sources” (391). Devore demonstrates and example of how gender in her article in order to go along with the fact that male dominance over women and over everything has always been part of history. Jean Kilbourne author of “Two Ways a Women Can Get Hurt,” feels like young children and teens are being taught to act older and more sexist. Today male role of dominance evident is through the big media. There are many advertising that becoming more and more about sexual women’s body and sexual men displaying violence over the women. Americans children would benefit to grow up in normal advertising from the society. Kilbourne say, that society needs to be more careful with how they are advertised because not only is it degrading to women, but also teaches young kids that it is good to pose provocative to use sexual activity to get what they want. When kids see it in ads they are going to assume that hat it is all good things to do.
