Firstly, Buddhism teaches love, kindness, respect and understanding towards others. During lecture thirteen, we discussed that peace comes from within. Siddiqui pointed out that they pray five times a day. However, one may sit and pray and find it very peaceful, but when they open their eyes and socialize with people, they can be instantly transformed to the state they were before. Therefore, we need to know that it is okay to be upset, but we need to make sure that hatred does not stick it us. That way we can be mad with someone, but then turn to them the next minute and say I hope everything is good between us. After all, peace in the world depends on peace within every individual.
Like many people, I lived my life failing to understand that inner and outer can be achieved if we really want it to. In fact, I thought inner peace can only be achieved by monks and saints, or anyone who did not have to deal with everyday life struggles. However, by noticing other people’s kindness, we can become aware how much peace really matters. When we find inner peace, it will be natural that we include our family, friends, those at our workplace, in our community, and in our country which would ultimately lead to world peace. 2) There are some aspects of religion that make it susceptible to being a source of conflict. This essay will discuss common threads of how religious faith and communities give rise to violence. To close, it will explain common or recurring themes of how religious faith, worldviews, and communities can be a force for justice and peace. Throughout the course, we saw that religious faith and communities causes violence. This is because it encourages people to think that their beliefs are God-given and therefore absolutely right. This makes them to think that others’ beliefs are not just wrong but evil. After all, religious beliefs are set by God and there is little room for compromise. Also, when people of one faith is not willing to accept others for who they are, violence can easily arise. Additionally, communities give rise to violence in the way that it creates ingroups versus outgroups. During lecture seven, we talked about signs of an unhealthy community. To expand, we talked about when we hold our group to be the best which leads us to wanting to teach and instruct the other group. This leads to intolerance between groups.
