Relationship Between Gatsby And Daisy

Improved Essays
I am not sure if Gatsby is devoted to Daisy or if he driven to possess her and what she represents. Their courtship described Daisy as part of the world that Gatsby aspired to and I feel that his longing was just as much for the lifestyle she represented as it was for Daisy, or maybe the two were the same thing for Gatsby. I feel the relationship between Gatsby and Daisy is similar in this way, both women being judged for what they represent vs. who they are. In the end Mrs Forrester seemed to have more courage than Daisy. Mrs. Forrester rebelled against the image placed on her where Daisy seemed to resign herself to her role. Perhaps that is not fair to Daisy, Nick is the only one telling us the story.

We are stuck with Nick as our narrator

Regardless of setting and era, as women, the struggle to achieve happiness is not entirely different. Daisy’s initial idea of happiness is to have stability and practicality in her life while Telaga’s idea of happiness is having the freedom to make her own decisions in her life. For them to achieve happiness they must both rebel against a patriarchal social system, that similarly defines them both as attractive accessories in a male dominated world. However, what differentiates them from each other is their response to critical situations when they have to make a decision to pursue their happiness or to conform to society’s expectations.…

For example, both Zelda and Daisy do not love Fitzgerald and Gatsby, respectively, nearly as much as the men love them. Both women are also uninterested in the men until they are extraordinarily wealthy. Additionally, Daisy and Zelda unfortunately turn out to be much different than initially thought.…

There are several components to a person; each one affected by different things: relationships, family history, gender, race and ethnicity, and a surrounding society. It is also these components that create a character in literature, which explains why characters can seem so relatable. In F. Gatsby As A Romantic Parties, wealth, and status, are the three things that made up the 1920s. Authors wrote about the American Dream a lot in this decade and a huge part of the American Dream was love. Every guy dreamed of having the perfect wife and every woman wanted the perfect husband. Love was idealized in a way to where now it could be kind of creepy and stalkerish but in the 1920s, it was how they expressed their love to each other. In the 1920s more and more people moved from their rural homes to city homes and partying became the new thing.…
