Trading with the French The Native Americans traded with the French because they had a fur trade. The French were the first white men they had seen. French people had been in Nebraska before it became a state. That helped them trade with the Native Americans. According to The French and the Native American relations, “The main reason is because they did not try to change the Natives.” The French did not try to take their land. In the 1500’s, the French came to the Americas and immediately grew strong trading ties with the Native Americans. The Natives had such a good relationship with the French, they threw hunting parties and showed the French where all the good fur is. That is why they traded with the French more than the Spanish
