Summary of “The Missing Women of Martin's Hundred” In J. Frederick Fausz’s paper, “Global Implications of Patent Law Variation,” Fausz discloses the unfamiliar historical events surrounding the captured women from Martin’s Hundred plantation during the onslaught of Virginia colonists, which was exerted by Indian warriors as a part of the Powhatan Uprising of 1622. The events surrounding the captured women never gained much attention among historians due to the great interest in researching the effects of the Powhatan Uprising of 1622; often causing the victims to be overlooked historically. Furthermore, little information has survived relating to these ladies’ dramatic adventures. Nevertheless, Fausz’s paper serves as a tribute to the ladies’…

King Philip’s War was a last major effort by the Native Americans of southern New England to drive out the English settlers. Led by Metacom, the Pokunoket chief called ‘King Philip’ by the English, Wampanoag Indians joined with the Nipmucks, Pocumtucks, and Narragansetts in a bloody uprising. It lasted fourteen months and destroyed twelve frontier towns. This was also apparent in the Virginian colonies as well. Due to many disputes with the Natives, Governor Berkeley, the royal governor of Virginia, had worked to establish peace with the tribes and successfully negotiated a settlement in which lands east of the Blue Ridge Mountains were reserved for the white settlers.…
King Philips War was the last Native American attempt to push off the invading whites from America. Their efforts were left in vain; however, it did inflate the most destruction on a white population in American history. The Native Americans problems and reasons for getting rid of the colonists were based from the lack of land, since more settlers kept pouring into their region, and competition for resources needed for survival. Nevertheless, the biggest problem, and what I believe became the ultimate reason for the war, was the Puritans earnest attempt to convert Native Americans into Christianity. New England established 14 praying towns where Native Americans could live, but under certain stipulations, they had to become essentially English.…

This fight not only tells you who won Ohio Valley, and Canada, but is also represents an important time in Colonial America. This war caused many changes in the colonies, such as the colonies in America breaking away from Britain, which is also known as the American Revolution. However, there were some factors that had not changed; for an example, the colonists still continued their westward expansion.…
Furthermore, the Europeans carried extremely more advanced weapons than the Indians, which contributed to the lack of power for Native American tribes. Essentially, before the enormous trend of European colonists, Indians inhabited the majority of America and embraced the nature and land. After settlers came to America, violence began erupting because of conflicts between explorers and Indians regarding land rights. Consequently, this led to frequent wars and resulted in the deaths of thousands of innocent Native Americans. Unfortunately, most of the war captives would later be executed or enslaved, where they would be forced to work till death.…
Expansion, the Merriam-Webster online dictionary defines the word as “the act or progress on expanding”. Expansion is something that our history has come to know for many years. Throughout all these years of expansion one question arises, is expansion always positive? When thinking about expansion many people think of the people actually expanding, but never consider the people affected by it. For example, expansion in the new world had a negative effect on the Native Americans in North America.…
To understand what exactly led to the eventual fighting between the Native Americans and European settlers, one must first learn the cultural differences between them. While, some Native American’s learned to “coexist” with new foreign settlers trading and interacting with them, other natives did not like these invaders and were eventually destroyed, usually by force. These new Europeans tried to bring their new way of life to the natives while these people just wanted to maintain their traditional and natural way of life. Native Americans wanted to live for their family, religion and becoming one with nature. They believed that all things were connected spiritually and that their actions could directly influence nature around them.…
“Being thus arrived in a good harbor, and brought safe to land, they fell upon their knees and blessed the God of Heaven who had brought them over the vast furious ocean, and delivered them from all the perils and miseries thereof, again to set their feet on the firm and stable earth, their proper element” (Bradford lines 74-79). The heavenly God did not just bring the people of England over to America. Along with the Puritans were countless changes for the Native Americans that were already there. William Bradford’s book “ Of Plymouth Plantation” and “Coming of Age in the Dawnland” written by Charles C. Mann were both about the Puritans and Native Americans. When the settlers came to America, the Native Americans’ lifestyles became different, as they were introduced to a new and different group of people, where they were introduced to another enemy and learned to settle instead of roaming.…
