In this excerpt from Act 3 of William Shakespeare’s tragedy, Macbeth, Macbeth addresses the idea that “We have scorched the snake, not kill’d it” (15). The snake is an image of Duncan, who has only been wounded, not killed yet. Using animalistic and life-after-death imagery, implicit diction, and figurative language, Shakespeare reveals Macbeth’s confused and worried mind, caused by killing Duncan and the repercussions that could come after the killings. In the beginning of the passage, Macbeth addresses his fear that Malcolm and Donalbain will heal from their father’s death and his malicious act of killing Duncan will cause Malcolm to use his “tooth” (17) to poison Macbeth.…

In Shakespeare’s play Macbeth, Banquo’s death depicts the extent to which Macbeth is willing to go to, simply to obtain power and make the prophecies of the witch come true. Banquo’s death is a key part of the plot as it reveals the Macbeth’s true qualities in both the play and the movie adaptation. The movie, however, has a better adaption as it takes place during the world war and makes the scene much longer compared to the play’s shorter death scene. For example, the movie starts with close up of the murderers, and fades out, with a stern and swift voice; to showcase the significance of the murder. There is a mid-close up towards one of the murderers, with blindfolds on top, to indicate the darkness and the stealth which the murderers have…
