The terms structure and direction can seem overwhelming and difficult to understand, but when trying to comprehend certain issues, events, or ideas, those terms can help in the distinguishing between right and wrong. Structure and direction can also help in understanding how some things are the way they are and how they got that way. Everyone can have their own ideas of how structure and direction apply to certain issues also, which sometimes allows for disagreement. Using my own interpretation of structure and direction, as well as some help from Albert M. Wolters, I am going to explain how they connect with Mark Charles' lecture through an analysis and evaluation of it.…
I attended a speaker event representing Land O’Lakes Inc. on October 25, 2016 from 6 PM to 7 PM in Blegen Hall, which was presented by Adam. To briefly discuss about the speaker’s education, he finished his undergraduate degree in History and is currently an MBA candidate at the Carlson School of Management with a particular focus on supply chain management. One of the reasons he decided to join the Carlson School of Management to pursue a graduate degree is to seek more career opportunities as he could not find a job within his field after his graduation from college. Besides his academic career, he has a five-year work experience in the Land O’Lakes. Inc.…
When I begin to ponder on all of my qualities or unique characteristics I begin to evaluate myself. What kind of student I am? My ability to comprehend complex ideas? What are my weaknesses and how can I improve on them. When I think about Florida A&M University and how it has been recognized among the “Best National Universities” and how it has also been listed among The Princeton Review’s “Best in the Southeast” colleges.…

As the season of fall approaches here at Texas A&M University Corpus Christi, I have reached the middle of my fall semester as a freshmen college student. Midterms are approaching and I am pulling my hair out due to the sleepless nights and long hours of studying for midterms. There are some students are planning activities for Halloween while I on the other hand am preparing my study guide for my Microeconomic midterm. The closest to a break I would have from school would be Thanksgiving break, and during the break I would return home and begin working for my family. All the stress I am feeling about school could be due to my unorganized school schedule and responsibility of renting an apartment.…

Being Mexican American I believed I had a bit of an unfair advantage taking this course. I was looking forward to learning more about my culture and myself but at the back of my mind I believed I would already know some of the material. I am very happy to say that I have learned a lot more than I expected. I have learned a lot about Hispanic cultures other than mine, politics, and economics, and many other topics but off all the things we covered in class the three that most stuck out to me were the early history of Latinos in the US, learning about privilege, and educational achievement of Latinos.…

Human social relationships all have one thing in common: the essential ability to form attachments. In order to form these attachments, the human body experiences seemingly miniscule yet significant changes on both a psychological level and a physical level. Two key factors that play into the biological level of close social attachment in humans, and in animals- specifically rats- is the role of the neuropeptides oxytocin (OXT) and arginine vasopressin (AVP). The close attachment one feels when entering a close social relationship is based on the biological neural and chemical components that trigger these feelings we have on a psychological level. Interestingly enough rats experience this phenomenon as well.…
Furthermore, there was so much more knowledge to consume about other people, the counseling process, and the development of my own professional identity in general. Active listening is a powerful technique that I believe is highly underestimated. Prior to this class I never realized how effective this simple act was. I was…
I took two classes for the summer of 2016, but the Interpersonal Communication class had me worried the most. I had a training with the army, and that required me to absence from school for two weeks. Unlike my other class, I didn’t have a chance to work ahead of the class with the instructor for the two weeks that I would be missing. Therefore, I was worried that I wouldn’t catch up with my classmates and end up failing the class. However, Ms. Anna was generous and extended the assignment due date for me; she even gave me an extra-credit assignment to replace the credits that I missed during my two weeks in training.…
Reflection Paper #1 Throughout this semester I have learned a great deal about human relations, which I did not know previous to taking this class. Thus far, I think that I have learned briefly some of the major concepts involved in the academic study of human relations. Throughout this class I have engaged in critical thinking and introspection and I have been able to apply human relation principles to my personal and professional life.…
Throughout the course, I learned different aspects of project management, and skills that can be used in the everyday life as long as involve interacting with other people. In this class I learned about how to be a better team member. This semester I was reminded of how important communication is and how people need to keep emphasizing it as one of the most important skills any person could possesses. The personality test was useful, I think it gave all of us a good way to start to see how everyone is different. It made it easier for each of us to better understand one another in how our unique personalities can be a challenge when working with others.…
Before I began my Freshman Development Seminar course with Professor Furet, I believed that this class would not be of good use to me. The reason for this was because of my beliefs in self-teaching myself to learn the basics with additional help from other sources. However, it did not turn out the way I wanted it to be. Therefore, I had to pay to get taught what I could have done on my own, at least that is what I convinced myself then and there. Throughout my class sessions with Ms. Furet, I learned more than I could have ever imagined.…
