Relationship And Irresponsibility In The Great Gatsby

“The Great Gatsby” and its responsibility The Great Gatsby is a famous novel by F. Scott Fitzgerald about the society and people in the year of 1920. The novel is mainly describing the love of the main character, Gatsby to Daisy, whom are Tom’s wife. At first, Daisy and Gatsby fall in love with each other, but then Gatsby have to leave for some reason and leave Daisy alone to wait for him without knowing when will he came back. At the night before the wedding, Daisy receives the letter from Gatsby which telling that he is coming back, but Daisy still choose to marry Tom after all. The relationship of these three characters, Tom, Daisy and Gatsby is a complex relationship due to the unclear feeling and the desire for money and status of Daisy. In this novel, the author not just writes about the relationship from these characters, but also writes about the responsibilities and irresponsibility from these characters, Tom, Daisy, and Gatsby, such as relationship and ethical responsibilities. Tom is a character whom the author developed with an extremely irresponsibility personality. In this novel, Tom is Daisy’s husband, and an old money people which means that he does not have to works for his money. Beside of taking Daisy as his legally wife, Tom also has his mistress outside, which is Myrtle Wilson, who also married. …show more content…
Scott Fitzgerald is a great novel, but the irresponsibility from character is somehow dominated over responsibility in this book. Daisy, in this case is the character with having the most unmoral and lack of relationship responsibilities. Tom and Gatsby is less showing their irresponsibility than Daisy. Not only these characters are having the issue on it, but other characters in this novel are also having this issue too. Responsibility is seeming a big problem in this novel. And with the fact that the author had write this at the year of 1920, I really wonder if this novel reflect the people’s attitude at these time
