This defines my Dad. Choosing a college was really difficult for me. I had a hard time choosing what I wanted, my Mom wanted me to play tennis, and my cousins wanted me in Fargo. My Dad did go to Bemidji way back when, so underneath I knew he wanted me at BSU. He had the biggest influence on me because he kept telling me “when the time is right, you’ll know your decision and what you want.” He put full faith in where I’ll go in life and supported me through every step. Through this my Dad and I are connected. Not only because we are/did attend the same college but because Bemidji is a home where we both choose, containing many of our same interests. A relational upper is demonstrated in our relationship, I look up to him while he keeps me in line on my responsibilities.
With everything in life; there are highs and lows. The attribution theory “explains how we create explanations or attach meaning to another person’s behavior or our own” (). Whether it was a bad basketball game or test; my dad never seems to be disappointed in me. He creates an excuse or thinks past why I should have excelled but didn’t. My Dad communicates this to me by looking at the positives of what I did that day instead of focusing on what I didn’t do well. My relationship with my Dad makes me more confident in myself. He doesn’t point out my flaws but makes small excuses and
