As Ms. Kaysen has her graduated high school and her previous educational history unknown, it is difficult to determine eligibility. It does not appear her disability impacted her education, as such a 504 plan may be more appropriate. Although Ms. Kaysen has completed high school, an educational assessment may provide information that could be useful in an evaluation for accommodations in a post secondary setting. If a disability category was required, a serious emotional disability (SED) is the most appropriate.

Colorado Department of Education Qualification:
1. The evaluation is sufficiently comprehensive to appropriately identify all of the child’s special education and related services needs, whether or not commonly linked to the disability category.
2. The child can receive reasonable educational benefit from general education alone.
3. The child’s performance is not due to a lack of appropriate instruction in reading, including the essential components of reading instruction is not due to a lack of appropriate instruction in math; and is not due to limited English proficiency.

Kaysen, she had little peer support in high school. During her high school graduation ceremony, she was called a “freak” by a peer. Ms. Kaysen’s guidance counselor reported that she was the only female in her high school not receiving post-secondary education suggesting that she has different values than her peer and may struggle with peer relationships. Ms. Kaysen has frequent unprotected sexual encounters with multiple partners. These encounters comprise Ms. Kaysen’s social interactions. Since entering Claymoore, Ms. Kaysen has been observed interacting with her female peers. If these relationships are healthy, this may serve as a protective factor for Ms.
