Relatable Role Model As An Orientation Model

Decent Essays
I want to be a relatable role model as an Orientation Leader because I will have just finished my first year as a student at Suffolk so I understand how intimidating it was to start this new chapter of my life. Hopefully I’ll be a familiar face around campus and make them feel comfortable enough to ask for help whenever they need it. Even the small thing of recognizing someone around campus and talking to them in the elevators is always nice to have so if all goes well I would like to become one of those friendly faces.

Reinhard, Given, Petlick, and Bemis (2008) view informal elder caregivers as secondary patients or caregivers-as-clients who also need a refuge and support due to the degree, intensity and the time given to their care recipients. Consequently, as the 65 and older adult population grows, increased longevity and chronic illnesses will create additional demands for their families (NIA, 2016), especially Alzheimer’s disease and other dementia, which will have the greatest impact on African American and Hispanic communities (Alzheimer’s Association, 2016). Bookman and Kimbrel (2011) contend that cultural strengths and demands of the informal elder caregiving experience of African American, Hispanic, Asian, and Native American communities, and other groups, should be taken into consideration, as well as socioeconomic status. Caregiver Roles. Anderson and Turner (2010) contend the West African legacy of strong kinship bonds combined with the…

The emotional pendulum that kids go through during the crazy years of adolescent hood is easily more intense then that of a middle age woman going through her menopause stage. The only real difference is that the middle age woman has years of experience and even though her body might not have ever been through this exact type of feeling, they still have the knowledge of how crazy life’s tenures can be. As for a kid they have no past experience with any of what is going to happen next in life. It is completely normal for a kid to act out on his emotions because sometimes they don’t see the effect they have on the outside world. If only there was a designed person that has been through these emotional changes to help kids out who are struggling to compensate.…

The old statement holds true to the realities of our career choices. When I look at my family tree, I can see through the genogram the roots in which many messages that I have received growing up stem from. I can also make that statement that it is true indeed that “the apple doesn’t fall far from the tree”. It is very typical for individuals to follow their families own career choices. Not only is what our parents career choices were familiar to us, but they are what seem attainable to many of us.…

After receiving feedback from the people who have observed me in a leadership position, it is clear to me my best-self portrait is a leader who leads by example, takes initiative and is very reliable. A large majority of my friend’s and family’s responses centered around the idea that my hard work ethnic inspires them to follow my lead and try to meet the goals that I set out for the group. Many of my respondents highlighted these attributes through the extensive campus improvement projects I did as Junior Class President, my revival of the once dormant Inter-Fraternity Council (IFC) and the…

There are many different types of leaders – local leaders, national leaders, and global leaders.
