Dr. Reinlib’ s protest on what this trip should be paid concerning the airfare is somewhat questionable according to my thinking based on the following: (1) A standard round-trip e-ticket payable by NIEHS is $678.00 from RDU to LAX.
(2) Dr. Reinlib opted to fly one way out of Burbank, CA for $577.60 which was allowed; however, my thinking is he would not have been granted this route based on the round-trip price of $1,155.20.
(3) Taxifare Finder shows the ride from Burbank, CA to LAX is $200. (4) Again the price each way from LAX to RDU is $339.00.
(5) Hence, I think the AO would have declined the Burbank, CA airfare if Reinlib has claimed a round-trip based on the cost saving element.
All, that being said what needs to be done now
