Reinhardt Academy was established in 1883 in Waleksa, Georgia, but didn’t officially have its first classes until 1884 when it was opened as a grammar school. Captain Augustus M. Reinhardt and his brother-in-law Lieutenant-Colonel John J. A. Sharp shared a law practice together, and wanted to open the college as a memorial to Reinhardt’s father. There were no college aged kids in the area at the time so the school commenced at a wood shop and served as a high school. The school became Reinhardt Normal College in 1890, and then officially became Reinhardt College in 1911. It wasn’t until 2010 that the school became Reinhardt University, the name it currently holds. Today RU has Soar the eagle their beloved mascot that proudly wears gold and blue.

Many students at Reinhardt University are enrolled online. Freshman classes have an impressive 12:1 student to professor ratio.
There is a wide variety of activities for students at Reinhardt, like intramural sports programs, volunteer opportunities, multicultural clubs and travel programs. Reinhardt Outdoors is a program that gets the students involved in nature and the community and takes an annual travel trip. The Gay-Straight Alliance, African Descent Student Association and Aspiring Latinos Altering Society are just a few cultural involvement options for students.
There are movie showings, coffee houses for mingling, video game tournaments and options for student ministry and prayer. Students can enjoy live sporting events and cheering on 20 different sports teams at Reinhardt University. Events are available for all students, regardless if they live on campus or
