Eagle School is an intermediate school for third through fifth grade in Martinsburg, West Virginia. The area surrounding the school is urban with apartments, housing, and many businesses. Houses surrounding the school are close in proximity to one another. Through an interview with the school principal Mr. Mullenax, the majority of the students live in poverty and have parents with criminal backgrounds. The school is a title one school with free breakfast, lunch, and take home meals for the weekends.…
1. What are the three main systems of Gray’s reinforcement sensitivity theory? Compare and contrast Gray with Eysenck 's PEN model. - In the textbook titled Personality Psychology Foundations and Findings written by Marianne Miserandino she stated that there are three main systems of Gray’s reinforcement sensitivity theory.…
The investigation looked into different patterns of behaviour of a rooster, who had learnt to peck at three different coloured keys on schedules of reinforcement. The left red key related to the fixed interval (FI), the white middle key for the variable interval (VI) and the right green key for the differential reinforcement (DRL) for a total of 270 seconds, 90 seconds per key schedule. The importance of operant conditioning allowed for control over timing and when a positive reinforcement was given in order to encourage the appropriate behaviour and when it was withheld. The rooster was immediately reinforced with pellets after the appropriate behaviour was seen. The law of effect is a principle that was developed by Edward L. Thorndike that…
Thus, repeated reinforcement is useful, but there is no guarantee that students will keep the good behaviour if no further reinforcement is available, for example, when attending another teacher’s lesson. Generalization is another solution, requiring the teacher to extend the application of rules in various settings and gradually reduce the reward at the same time (Schwieso & Hastings, 1986, p. 83; Landrum and Kauffman, 2006, pp. 59-60). This aims at removing the students’ reliance on reinforcement to work hard and show satisfactory discipline in the long…
Objectives The completion of this professional development will enhance special education teachers’ awareness as well as knowledge regarding a video modeling, which is an evidenced-based intervention implanted within Applied Behavioral Analysis (ABA). The intervention can be implemented in both the classroom and community settings. More specifically, video modeling will be discussed in detail combined with the execution of sample videos, which will enhance teacher understanding. Teachers will be provided with definitions of key terms, information regarding each type of video model, visual representation of each video model in action, and an opportunity to collaborate/reflect with peers regarding intervention execution.…
Content area E, Specific Behavior-Change Procedures include the task list items E-12: Errorless Teaching (Behavior Analyst Certification Board, 2012). My submission for this content area is the Relias instructional video that was completed during SPE 565, which demonstrated errorless teaching. Errorless teaching is a teaching method which limits the learner’s ability to make errors. The learner is prompted to respond correctly. The learner receives the highest level of assistance to ensure the target response occurs.…
Behaviorist theorists believe learning is most likely to take place by establishing reinforcements for desired behavior in the classroom. Mr. Danza was able to adapt these notions and give his…

In addition to animal training, operant conditioning has also had an influence on classroom educational systems. Some examples would be classroom token economies, grading systems / performance marks, and classroom management. Based on the reasons above it is clearly evident that Skinner’s behaviorist theories of operant condition and…
I think that more people need to pay more attention to the causes of criminal behaviors because not every criminal is a violent person they may have just broke the law. Many people believe that in the world there are good guys, then there are bad guys, the bad guys are criminals and the good guys are not. Factors such as influenced by incentives play a part in the good guy bad guy theory. The most common crime that is committed in the United States is property crime, which is reported to be more than ten million a year (www.fbi.gov). Young offenders in groups often commit this crime so this would refer to the testing differential reinforcement theory where it states that the that those who believe they would be rewarded for deviance by they those who they respect were the ones most likely to engage in deviance.…
Therefore, the teacher must keep in mind the negative behavior that cannot occur the same time as the positive behavior. One example of finding the incompatibility of behavior is sitting at the desk vs. wandering in the classroom. When the student is reinforced of the positive behavior they are supposed to be doing at the given time, they will have a positive behavior to act upon replacing the negative behavior. It is also important to know the student and take notes of the types of reinforcement inadvertently received when ding the problem behavior. Hence, it is like trial and error to figuring out what kind of reinforcement would work best for the student to achieve the desired…
My roommate Jeff is looking to lose weight to join the football team and needs help. In order, to help him not only lose the weight but to also maintain the weight loss I am going to apply what I have learned about conditioning and reinforcement from my psychology class. The first step in achieving this goal is to first determine his past experiences with diet and exercise and how long he could maintain both. After gathering this data I would then need to know how committed he would be to the program I would suggest for him to follow.…
Applied behavior analysis (ABA) for children with autism spectrum disorders, can be very impacting for their present and future lives. Children who are artistic, stands a greater chance of being ostracized from community and other social evens because of not knowing appropriate behaviors for such settings. Applied behavior analysis or early intensive behavior is just what these children need, whether it be home, school or public spaces shared by all. For the arguments of this paper, the top reasons for this intervention will be established.…
In this case, the antecedent, requiring the student to engage in learning, is unavoidable so we must focus on the consequences. Consequences need to develop that do not reinforce the behavior. The most important characteristic of these consequences is that they must require Jackson to engage and not remove him from the learning environment. Lastly, we must analyze the reason for the frequency of challenging behavior.…
Second Theoretical Perspective: Reinforcement-Affect Model of Attraction Don Byrne’s reinforcement-affect model of attraction can be applied to the relationship of Landon and Jamie, with its relation to interpersonal relationships. The aspects of how Landon and Jamie were attracted to one another, and how their differences affect their relationship can be discussed with this model. The reinforcement-affect model of attraction argues that people are attracted to one another through positive reinforcement. People will continue to do things that provide them pleasure and happiness. Likewise, people are attracted to people who provide them with pleasurable responses or rewards.…
