A. What major topic or question of importance to the profession of rehabilitation counseling is addressed in this article? Social media is an everyday part of many individuals lives, from rehabilitation professionals to the individuals they are serving. The CRCC has now found a need to review ethical standards of a Rehabilitation Counselors when interacting with their customers through social media. The CRCC expects rehabilitation professionals to uphold the same standards of professionalism while interacting with customers through social media as they would in person. This article looks at the advantages and disadvantages that occur when counselors decide whether or not to interact with their customers through social media. The authors believe, “…electronic correspondence as a rehabilitation professional in a clinical setting has many advantages.” I however believe the disadvantages weigh out the advantages when it comes to interacting with customers on social media. What major points does the author of this reviewed article make? The article suggested the counselor discuss their social media policy during the intake process with the customer. I have worked in social services for thirteen years and I have never had a customer request to be my friend on social media. To assist in building a positive professional relationship with customers a counselor may want to avoid discussing social media during the first meeting and may prefer to address social media as they would address any other inappropriate relationships with customer. A counselor wouldn’t discuss their dating policy with customers or any other ethical issues during the first meeting and social media should be the same only discussed with those customers when the topic needs to be addressed as any other ethical
