Registered Sex Offenders

There are five registered sex offenders who live within a 0.25 mi radius from my address. They are all males and Hispanic. The first one is 54 years old and lives the closest. He was charged with Second Degree Sexual Assault and was convicted in December of 1994 and was released in June 1999. I believe he is someone to be concerned about because there was some situation in where he had sexual intercourse without consent through the use or threat of violence. Even though he is 54 years old now, I’d still be careful. The second offender is now 30 years old and was convicted in 2011 for risk of injury, he was let out that same day. However, in the comments, it says that the offender had sexual intercourse with a 15-year-old female. To be safe …show more content…
Which can mean it wasn’t a very serious crime or a serious crime. It doesn’t tell what specific crime they committed which would have helped in deciding if I think this person is someone to watch out for or not. The next offender is 41 years old and was charged with Second Degree Sexual Assault. He was convicted in 1995 and released in 1997. I’m guessing the offender had something to do with another person under age so in my perspective, that just signals a red flag no matter the circumstances so I would be concerned. The last offender living close is 43 years of age and was charged with risk of injury, convicted in September 2011 and released in December 2011 however, in the details, it says he went on his 11-year-old daughters Facebook and attempted to contact a 14-year-old wishing to hook up with her. Making him a sexual predator catfishing a young girl. Also, this offender goes by 6 different aliases. I’d be very careful around this offender. Something seems sketchy if he goes by that many names and was accused of trying to contact an 11-year-old for sex. All these offenders are all male, no younger than 41, and Hispanic. Personally, I would be concerned with all of

The results show that by removing the offender from the community, it increases the difficulty to create healthy relationships (SOURCE). However, the prevention of new relationships can be a supporting factor to the reduced rates of offending, as studies show that offenders are more likely to reoffend with someone that they know (SOURCE X 3). The success in Minnesota also relies on the prevention methods established by residents in neighbourhoods where offenders live. Along with that, not all sex offenders should have to register for their crime for the entirety of their lives. According to the 2008 Ohio Department of Rehabilitation and Corrections Recidivism study, sex offenders who returned to an Ohio prison for a new sex offense did so within 2 to 3 years (“Ohio Department of Rehabilitation,” 2008). Therefore, if they have proven themselves and have not reoffended within a said time period, that classification should be lifted.…

The correctional facilities responses to these convicts are to try and move them to sex offender therapy programs. This way the sex offender is safe from other inmates but are still kept out of the public. Community responses to sex offenders are versatile.…

As with many social problems, the question of labeling a sex offender on a national registry is met with many different options. The different viewpoints of the offender, the victim, the family, and the administrators of justice must all be taken into consideration. This can make it difficult to disperse a clear and uninformed form of justice in these types of crimes. Being placed on the national sex offenders registry changes a person 's life dramatically and I feel the punishment should fit the crime. They are restricted from living and working in certain areas that seem common to regular citizens whose lives are not under constant surveillance.…
