A study conducted by Dr. Mary Blegen and colleagues noted that patient in hospitals with Registered Nurses trained at baccalaureate level or higher had lower incidents of congestive heart failure mortality, decubitus ulcers, failure to rescue, and shorter length of stay (AACN, 2014). I do agree with the research finding in that the higher educated nurses are much better in critical thinking, decision making, and poses better management knowledge. However, Associate degree nurses possess better skills which also contribute on patient outcome.
The individual nurse’s ability to assess ability to assess and recognize a deteriorating patient, and prompt appropriate action, be it calling the rapid response team, initiating cardio-pulmonary resuscitation,
