Regarding this matter I would like you to take into consideration that I have been a Registered Nurses since 1990 in good standing. Prior to that, I was an LVN for 3 years and a nurses’ aid for the previous 3 years. I have never had any complaints from patients, family, employers or co-workers. I have never had to go before a nursing board in all my years of practice. These incidents did not happen at work or involve any patient care. This is a private matter and had been resolved. My husband and I have sought help from a Marriage and Family counselor, Barbara Gephart, in Redding California.
I have always had excellent evaluations at work throughout my career. I graduated from my LVN program with an academic achievement award, my GPA was 4.0. I also maintained a very high GPA during my nursing program. I make every effort to attend to my obligations, financial or otherwise. I have only ever received one speeding ticket at age 17 or 18 and two parking tickets in my lifetime. Never have I had any misdemeanor or felony charges. I have

I have complied with all of the California Board of Registered Nursing requests and completed the psychological exam. I have been very embarrassed about this whole incident and very sorry that it happened and I take responsibility for it. I am learning to set boundaries in my private life and have done a lot of self reflection. I feel very stable mentally and feel that I should be allowed to continue to practice nursing. As my husband is on permanent disability, I am the sole wage earner. I have worked my way through the ranks from a nurse’s aid and I consider this my profession, not just my job. I try to be a positive role model for other staff and have preceptor many new nurses. Most importantly I have always treated every patient with the utmost respect and provided the best care and been compassionate and

After choosing scenario number three, I determined there was no conflict of principles or values in regards to me making the right decision. The nurse was in violation of hospital policy and in violation of HIPPA, which requires me to report the situation for patient safety. I would report what I saw to the charge nurse, instead of approaching the senior nurse and possibly having the situation become hostile. The ANA provision that mainly applies to the situation would be provision 3.1, which is the protection of the rights of privacy and confidentiality of the patient. The nurse violated this provision by looking in the chart of the patient in order to learn why the patient sought care.…

I feel that I may have lacked some competence because I never have been in a domestic violence relationship. I feel that this was a challenge for me to accept her decision to leave and return to him. Being able to be honest and providing her with a safe and appropriate safety plans as well as additional resources were huge factors that were considered. I was able to fully understand that I cannot work harder than a client and completed my responsibilities in providing her with the facts, resources and support needed. I wonder if they would have treated him differently if they had knowledge of his daughter’s position. The health care worker doesn’t realize peer disparities affects patient care and they suffer. I’ve heard and seen it all; that’s not my job, why can she/he do it, I refuse or I’m going to ignore. In the meantime, poor patients are left stewing in their own waste, unfed and mistreated. The end result to your story, they mistreated the wrong patient and lost their jobs.…

This letter being written may not be one of my finer moments I must admit. I sit as I ponder what exactly to say. Excuses are not an acceptable form of taking responsibility in my eyes. Justification of my mistakes does not correct the problem or mistake. I guess I just have to look at the situation in reflection knowing hindsight is 20/20 & if I could go back to redo my charting I would have done what I know should have been done in the first place.…

Professional Code of Ethics in Relation to Nursing Each passing day, decisions are made that require the guidance and support that ethics provides in order to address situations with fairness. All professional arenas are expected and required to uphold standards that are centered on ethical principles. Ethics, according to Baillie, H., McGeehan, J., Garrett, T., & Garrett, R. (2013), “seeks to determine how human actions may be judged right or wrong” (p. 1). As nursing students, we are taught to regard every human being we care for in an ethical manner that does not threaten their dignity. With that in mind, the American Nurse Association (ANA) has developed a standard nursing code of ethics.…

An admission referral was received from another skilled nursing facility (SNF) for Mr. W. and the information was forthcoming about the prospective patient 's psychiatric and fall history. They even disclosed he had recent hallucinations and multiple falls which required them to have a one to one staff member with him while he was in bed and used a restraint to ensure his safety while out of bed. My Director of Nursing (DON) accepted this resident, scheduled the admission for Friday evening and did not inform the nursing staff of his high risk for fall. The nursing staff did receive a report from the SNF but it was too late to discuss whether or not this admission was appropriate for our facility because the DON had left for the day and…
