Registered Nurse with Over Twenty Years of Experience
There have been many changes in the nursing profession throughout the years. The best way to learn about these changes is to talk to an experienced nurse. We were honored to have had the opportunity to interview a registered nurse with over twenty years of experience. Iris Rosario has worked as a Registered nurse for 50 years. She has worked at many different hospitals. She graduated from Bellevue Hospital, New York in 1962. She has high professional beliefs and values that relate to nursing. Iris has dedicated most of her life to nursing.
Iris saw the greatest amount of change in the nursing profession relating to delegation. In the beginning of her career, nurses used to do everything related to patient care, but now nurses can delegate many patient care activities to licensed vocational nurses (LVNs)

Iris states, “Delegation is really a major change in the nursing profession. Nurses can have more time to care for more critical patients. This will result in better quality care for patients”. According to Iris, the nursing field was very limited in the past, but nowadays there have been vast expanse in the nursing field. She said that the nursing scope of practice has been increased and nurse could perform variety of services in different fields as compare to the past. In the beginning of her career, they used glass syringes and metal needles. Nurse had to sterilize the syringes to use them again. There was not a pixis for medication. In the beginning of her career medication was kept in a cabinet drawer and they will carry a key around their neck to open it.
