Job description Registered Nurses provide and coordinate the care of patients, educate the public and patients about various health conditions, and offer advice and personal care to patients and the patient’s family. While registered nurses treat and care for patients, they must also offer emotional support while doing their occupation. RNs work in a number of different working environments. These environments include: in hospitals, physicians’ offices, home healthcare services, and nursing facilities. Other environments are outpatient clinics, schools, or military service. Educational requirements Educational requirements for a registered nurse usually include three education paths. These paths are a Bachelor of Science degree in nursing, an associate’s degree in nursing, or a diploma from an approved nursing program. All registered nurses must be licensed and have obtained one of the following listed above. Though it is not mandatory, some employers recommend a minor degree or study of psychology. Qualifications/Certifications In the past, most nurses qualified for their occupation by completing diploma programs.
