For my project have volunteered at Rogue Regional Medical Center. I started volunteering at the hospital in July, and just complete all of my hours. 12 hour were spent gaining training so I could be successful in my volunteering. Also I worked under an employee of the hospital to learn the layout of the hospital. I then volunteered on the south lobby giving room numbers and directions for the remainder of my hours. My project has had bumps along the way I have worked them out and, I’m happy that I have now finished my hours. My project started in June when I had my orientation. It was an eight hour orientation where we went over the rules and regulations of the hospital. That was followed by a volunteer in the north lobby with a advisor. …show more content…
It would have been more beneficial for my future to have worked in the NICU, because I want to be a neonatal nurse. Volunteering in the south lobby entailed giving directions and giving out room numbers to family members. Most of the people I see when volunteering are employees leaving. It has helped me to understand how to give directions. Also being in the south lobby has helped me to convey what I want to say to others. Even though my project has not gone the way I wanted it to I have learned a lot. Because my project did not go they way I planned I had to get out of my comfort zone. I had to work to get hours. It put me in places where I had to help and talk to people I did not want to. This experience also showed me what is like to be in a hospital environment. I’m very happy that I have had this experiences, and that I got gain this experience towards my future career aspirations. Volunteering in the hospital has helped me in my future career goals. When I first started I thought I would be doing something completely different, but it helped me to have a better learning experience. In the end my project was a success I got all of my hours and learned a lot. I’m thankful for this wonderful

During my internship at the University of Maryland Shock Trauma Center (STC), I gained more confidence in my decision in eventually pursuing a career in health care, either through being a researcher or a physician. I first started my internship at the University of Maryland STC in my senior year of high school as a requirement for my magnet program. The internship was a volunteer position but we performed basic tasks such as stocking each bay with supplies and saline solution, retrieving blood from the blood bank when needed, and providing blankets and socks for incoming patients. I never paid attention to the importance of these tasks until one specific incident.…

Early upon entering the College of Social Work I became interested in the homeless population. In my junior year, I took the time to volunteer with the Renaissance Community Center, an organization that provides various services to Homeless individuals in Tallahassee. Volunteering here taught me about people and the effects of interpersonal communication, how the availability of services can aid people during personal crisis, and the limitations of resources and access on a vulnerable population such as the homeless. This experience is valuable to me as it increased my interest in the population and my awareness of how it intersects with values and the purpose of social work.…

Thus, I enrolled in a volunteering program at Greenwich Hospital in order to not only encounter a doctor’s working environment, but also to serve the patients who are a member of my community in Greenwich. In the hospital my job can range from sorting and arranging hundreds of mails, escorting patients, helping with maintaining hygiene, to sending flowers to the patients. According to my supervisor and the volunteers’ website, there are approximately a total of 700 volunteers who the staff believe to be the unsound heros of the hospital. Due to the number of volunteers, the staff assign us to different sections of the hospital within which assigning to be an escorter is one of my favorite as it allows me to encounter patients and doctors from different departments. Gradually from observation and conversation with many of the doctors in the hospital and some of my father’s friends I perceived the drudgery, the stress, the paper works, the coordination, the management skills that are necessary for surviving in this field after having endured the hardship of medical school.…

When I began my search for my Silver Award project, my first though turned to children and kids my age, because who better to help than people my age and in my community, and I felt that the group of people the project was intended for would be a great match. I brain stormed with my troop and finally decided on a lending library for the Frisco Summer Lunch Program. My first step was to meet the coordinators of the lunch program and discuss my ideas. After this, my group and I began to gather supplies and set a final date to begin our projects. I specifically was in charge of signage and collecting the vast majority of 2000 books after coordination 2 book drives.…

What I did during my senior project I researched famous figures, events and organizations such as Mary Mahoney, she was the first African American female to become a registered Nurse. The Scared Twenty a group of nurses who were the first on the battle field during WWI. I also volunteered at children's hospital in downtown St Paul, my duties included taking patients and guests to and from their destinations, appoinments and I would also provided relief for parents to take a break or run erranes, I also distracted kids from the fact that they’re in a hospital. I would say a weaknesses of my project is that I didn’t go more depth about the different types of nursing and their rate of pay. The strengths of my project are the very hands on expeirence, the reseach into the stas and famous African American nurses.…

Working 14 hours a day running errands, washing floors and seeing different disciplines of the hospital, as well as talking to employees, from consultants to part-time cleaners, gave me an insight into hospital life. Through volunteering with KEEN I interacted with young people with Autism to which I took an interest after seeing “The Curious Case of a Dog In The Night-time”. My participation in a class as a volunteer for AgeUK showed me how difficult it is to live a normal life with MS and made me appreciate the patients’ strength of character. In my ongoing volunteering in an Alzheimer’s nursing home I find patients’ wishes are often neglected due to their age, and I now understand how important the presence of volunteers is to the residents.…

Not So Delirious The moment my volunteer supervisor assigned me to the Delirium Prevention Program I thought my semester was going to be filled with numerous encounters of elderly and crazy patients especially since being delirious being in an acutely disturbed state of mind resulting from illness or intoxication. This state of mind is characterized by restlessness, illusions, and incoherence of thought and speech. I hoped that volunteering would give me a chance to understand what the hospital was like, especially from a patient 's perspective, and also a chance to interact with patients and clinical staff while I roamed around like a prospective doctor I saw myself as. After going through my training to become a Delirium Prevention Volunteer and watching numerous videos of how to talk with delirious patients I would never have thought that working as a Delirium Prevention Volunteer would help me develop important life skills.…

My only non-embarrassing memory from middle school was set, of all places, in my eighth grade Health class. Presumably for the sexual wellness unit, we were watching a video about pregnancy. Beginning from conception, the film depicted detailed photos and videos of fetal development. While many were freaked out by the “alien babies” on the screen, I was enthralled. I tried not to sniffle as I cried from the beauty of it all and decided that I had found my life’s work.…

I feel that I can make a difference in each patient’s life that I encounter, it might be as small as getting a wheelchair if they seem flaccid or weak, a blanket if they are cold, something to drink or just talking to a patient to get their mind off pre-surgery. I look forward to volunteering each week. The most rewarding day by far was being able to witness a nurse giving CPR to a child choking. She saved his life. I would want to someday be able to be able to save a life, not for the recognition but because I want to make a difference.…
