In the ABC fantasy drama series Once Upon a Time, the character of Regina Mills, or as those from the enchanted forest call her the Evil Queen, is shown as not only being a complex character but a character that goes against the binary opposition of good vs. evil. Throughout the series the audience is shown a character that has many layers, and that has gone through hardships in her life that have shaped her to be who is she throughout the show. Her hardships are what pushed her to become the Evil Queen, but having her character struggle with the idea of good vs. evil is what allows Regina to stand out as being a character to pay attention to in the series. This fact that Regina fighting against the darkness in her and around her shows the complex character that the audience has grown to love. These characteristics allow for the arguments that Regina Mills is a character that has dealt with hardships, fought against binary oppositions, and became a complex character. The central idea of Once Upon a Time is that the characters of the enchanted forest have been cursed to live in the town of Storybrooke, without knowing who they were in the enchanted forest. The Evil Queen from Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs cast the curse. However, unlike the classic story the audience finds out why the Evil Queen became the Evil …show more content…
At this point in the series Regina has a chose to either continue down the path of the Evil Queen or try to find a happy ending to her story. Regina’s quest is made even more complicated due to the fact that Emma Swan’s son is actually her adoptive son Henry. Throughout the rest of the series Henry try’s to help his mother fight the darkness in her and allow her to find her happy ending. The audience does see that Regina becomes happier the more she lets go of her darkness, but a question that arises is will the darkness ever
