In our center we follow a Reggio inspired philosophy, with that being said our goal for the children is to use the materials to their own creativity allows them. We hope the children use the materials provided to aid their play and guide or open up their exploration within the center. As a group we choose items that were diverse, versatile and efficient. The Multi-Image Mirror Pentagon from Kool Lousise and Gault we bought for $229.99 was a great purchase. Toddlers are able to tear apart each triangle and velcro them in different patterns, climb on the soft cushions. This item

Reggio centers are known worldwide for their philosophy of teaching young children through what they term the "hundred languages" of childhood. This is including graphic representations of the children's thoughts and ideas, the verbal, motor, musical, mathematical, ethical, imaginary, cognitive, and moral expressions, to name just a few of the other languages of childhood. Learning in the Reggio Emilia centers is connected with children's real lives. For example, each child has a mailbox, and messages and pictures are exchanged as a natural part of the school day. For younger children, a photo of the child identifies his or her mailbox.…

Babies learn to see over a period of time, much like they learn to walk and talk. At birth, babies cannot see as well as older children or adults. Therefore, it is important to provide the babies with books that include the visual contrast of black and white. These high-contrast colors captivate and hold baby’s attention, in addition to accelerating the visual development as well as the motor skills. The book can unfold in a half circle to surround the baby, making it great for tummy time, in addition the objects shown in the book are simple ones that a baby is sure to see around him.…

My understanding of Pre-Operational Play is that children develop Representative Function between the ages of 2 and 4. During the Representative Function sub-stage, children master the ability to picture, remember, understand, and replicate objects in their minds that are not immediately in front of them. In other words, children can create mental images of objects and store them in their minds for later use. Infants and toddlers understood their world as containing only what they were immediately experiencing and nothing else.…
