When you think of jamaican music you think of reggae. Jamaica is the nation that gave birth to reggae. Reggae was started in the late 1960s. It like the Jamaican culture and language is a mixture of other genre of music. Reggae is a mixture of ska, calypso, and rhythm and blues. It became popular throughout the 1970s with the help of Bob Marley. Reggae was not the only genre of music that originated in Jamaica. There is also ska,which evolved in the late 1950s. Ska is a combination of Caribbean mento and calypso with American jazz and rhythm and blues. These are just two of the many genres of music that originated from Jamaica.
