Taking it back to Craiglockhart hospital and early understanding of shell shock, Regeneration is a good observation of how doctors would treat these ill men. In an eventful and tear wrenching way, Regeneration allows us to see exactly what occurred. The film opens up by bringing in a familiar face, Siegfried Sassoon, and his letter called, Finished with the War: A Soldier’s Declaration. This talked about how he truly felt about the war and how he felt the men were being sacrificed for the country. When he arrived at Craiglockhart, Sasoon brought his Military Cross that he earned and made him an instant hero. He did not want that so at the hospital we see him throw it away. Right before this the army decided to send Sassoon to Craiglockhart

Rivers himself. Billy, who at first seemed to be the most unemotional character, is quite a challenge for Dr Rivers. He is trying to gain is speech back after loosing the ability to while living in the trenches. Prior gets his speech back thanks to tons of hard therapy with Dr. Rivers, and goes into town. At a little bar he meets a woman named Sarah and they have an instant connection. During this time, there was complete divide in the rankings of all the soldiers, and where and how they would be treated. Craiglockhart itself was only for the officers. When Billy is finally ready for hypnosis, Dr. Rivers uncovered the truth to Billy's trauma. It was caused by a death of one of his fellow soldiers during a trench bombing. In the movie it showed when he actually lost his ability to talk. It was when he picked up the eyeball of the deceased soldier and asked what should be done with "this gobstopper". Finding out that the death was the actual trigger for his sudden problem shocked Prior. He thought the entire time is occurred because of something he may have done, and it was his fault. After regaining his speech, he feels like he has an obligation to go back into duty to prove to everyone but especially to himself that he is able and healthy to return to
