Reflective Summary Of Jamie's Tutoring Program

At the beginning of the tutoring project, Jamie was thought to be on a second grade reading level. However, after the administration of the QRI-5, I learned that Jamie is on an independent level for word recognition and is on the instructional comprehension level. By the post-assessment Jamie could still read with an independent word recognition but her comprehension core decreased to frustration. The first QRI-5 that was administered the student was unfamiliar with the reading with a low 33%. During the second reading test, Jamie scored a 75% familiarity with the reading concepts in the text. The pre-assessment covered a topic Jamie was no familiar with, but she could relate to the topic because she had been on a field trip before. The post-assessment, Jamie was familiar with the concept questions but she struggled to understand the meaning of the vocabulary words that assisted in her understanding of the text. …show more content…
When she is taking her unit tests on a chapter she just read she takes less time to complete the assignment and can get more questions right. When monitoring her small group reading she has started to participate more and ask questions of the books she is reading. Although, after tutoring, her overall passage reading level has gone down to frustration she is still using the tools she learned in the session on her own. Jamie’s comprehension has seen a small improvement since the tutoring sessions. She is able to now answer a question or two more than she used to with no prior knowledge of comprehension
