8/19/2015: The social worker was asked by the nurse to assist a patient, per Dr. R. Sundaram. The patient was requesting a letter to state his competence in supervision of his two children. The Social Worker is not qualified to address a letter such as this and consulted her supervisor about this matter. The Clinical Services Officer, Nursing Service Director, LPN – Team Lead, Dr. R. Sundaram and the social worker met to discuss this patient’s case. Jaymie (Client Services) says she usually discusses post treatment when she does exit interviews. Her role is to give information on supports, connect them through the alumni Facebook page, and stay in contact with them through the alumni phone (24/7/365.) She aims to use connection and bonding language when speaking to clients so she can connect with them and meet them at the level they’re at. Jaymie is also educated and knows when to be serious with clients depending on what situations are arising. I feel like I am professionally ready for my senior year placement. I am looking forward to being able to spend much more time and actually see what a social worker does and interact with a social worker on a much different level than previous service learning’s. I believe that being able to interact with individuals at this last site will help me tremendously when it comes to interacting with clients and employees at my senior placement. When I started working as a CAN, as well as volunteering in the health care field, I understood that the work involved included helping residents in activities of daily living. What I found out after I started working was how much of an impact the job makes on people. When I was volunteering to help a woman go grocery shopping I did not think much of it. However, when I came into her home and started putting her groceries away she started tearing up. After years of working in the Social Services field, I felt that my heart needed a hiatus from the gut wrenching circumstances in which many of the families I assisted found themselves in. I could no longer bear the responsibility of a child’s life in my hands due to the bureaucracy and conditions that plagued many of the people in my caseload. The stress of such an endeavor was affecting my health. I still wanted to be helpful and to try to make a difference in peoples’ lives but not at the expense of my own. Reflective Journal Assignment – Assignment #2 This whole interviewing experience was pretty great and interesting from both sides of the interviewing process; But while I was being interviewed, I felt a slight bit of discomfort during the process and felt that while my “Social Worker” (Bailey) was interviewing me was just a tad bit tense; And what I mean by her being tense is her posture was tense, like she didn’t really seem comfortable at all interviewing me, and her voice was tense as well, she spoke fast and rushed through everything which caused some discomfort.
