Over that past eight week of the application of analytical methods course, we dealt with different topics, assignments, and discussions that range from PICOT question development to DNP project dissemination. I learnt the importance of evidence-based practices (EBPs) and their relevance to my current job as a nurse practitioner, and most importantly to my upcoming DNP project. My learning experiences during this eight weeks course section has been quite versed. In the first week, the class objective was to formulate a PICOT question that will be used for an EBP intervention. I vividly could remember how I struggled to put a one-sentence PICOT question for high blood pressure education for African American adults. Later, I was able to come up

I am now half way through with Summer Session II and the transition between high school and college has been exciting, but also overwhelming. A few differences I have noticed between my high school classes and my college classes are the size difference, the diversity in students, and the faster pace. In my high school, the average number of students in each class was about 25 to 35 compared to my biggest class now at about 200 students. Additionally, the students in my class before were mainly Hispanic, but now everywhere I look I am able to see people of different cultures and that is something that is so important to me. The reason for this is that, while I did not grow up in a diverse area, I believe that growing up around different people…

I had never had an open dialog about race with my son until I started to read this chapter on race and ethnicity. This chapter open my eyes on how many minority women including myself can be discriminated against for being a single or divorced woman raising a child on their own and how we are considered a disadvantage minority at the bottom of the latter. Learning this made me feel uncomfortable because it made me feel so racially categorized. This started the dialog about race with my son, I asked him if he had ever felt discriminated against because of his race or ethnicity, he doesn’t think he had been, but he spoke about a time at Sam’s club gas station while filling up his gas tank, how a sale representative of a glass cleaning product…

In reviewing my 360 evaluation, I was surprised by some of my findings. I was unaware of what people really thought of me and honestly I avoid knowing what they think at all costs. I have always been self-conscience and worried about what others think of me. After reading my scores, I was both shocked and relieved of my findings. I was not aware I see myself at such a lower level than what others do.…

Hey Ms. Mancini....hope Monday is going well for you. I felt very uncomfortable about the way the session ended Friday, I think it is our obligation as professionals to ensure there is appropriate closure at the end of each session; maybe we can brainstorm to find out how to ensure this is followed during our sessions. Reflecting, I think we should have developed rules of engagement for sessions, which I will work to include moving forward. I wanted to inquire about Amin, as well as discuss the session Friday January 6, 2017. I would like to inquire about how long was he upset, was he able to calm down, how long did it take him to calm down, did the crying escalate, if so what was the intensity and duration....…

Stephanie, I too found this assignment to be difficult as I evaluated my personal skills and development level over the last 17 years in this profession. You would think by being a nurse for 17 years I would be on the expert level. However, had you asked me this 2.5 years ago, I would have likely agreed with being an expert, I worked a total of 10 years in a psych residential facility for at risk youth. In that specialty field, I did consider myself to on an expert level. Since moving back to the medical aspect of nursing little over 2 years ago, I feel I am back to a proficient stage in this area of specialty.…

When I reflect on my academic career, I realized how the pedagogical approach to problems I learned over the years as a student and Tutor has helped develop my philosophical approach to education as a collective effort where intellectual diversity and critical thinking is respected. I think in retrospect at the time I had the opportunity to teach my first class. As a new graduate in Nigeria, I was mobilized for the National Youth Service Program, a compulsory one year national service, where new graduates are posted to different regions other than theirs with the aim of “producing future leadership with positive national ethos-Leadership.” Soon after my orientation at the school where I was posted, I was assigned to teach Geography. I was eager and curious to meet my students.…

Somedays, it is hard to believe the youth is about to take over the world we have built. Many people see them as lazy and ill prepared to take on real responsibilities and make decisions based upon their consequences. I believe as an educator it is my job to change this trend. It is my job to make sure the youth is prepared for their future roles I society, understand the consequences associated with all their actions, and become independent thinkers. I was lucky enough to have parents that encouraged me to make tough decisions regarding my future including where I went to school, what I studied, and what programs I poured my time into.…

Reflection When signing up to take the Final Project Course this fall I was extremely nervous and not excited to start. Walking into the first day of class and learning more about what the final project would entail, I did feel slightly better but still scared that it was going to be too overwhelming and hard to complete by myself. Luckily, the individual meetings and emails with my professor made everything much more clear and inviting. These final project meetings were very helpful in terms of receiving constructive criticism and then going back home to make changes to the paper.…

I do agree with the outcomes of this assessment. My assessment shows that I am able to learn in any of these ways. This to me means that I am capable of adjusting to the way I am being taught no matter how I am being taught. However, while I am able to utilize all four styles of teaching I had the highest score in “Doing” and “Thinking”. This means that I tend to ask more “how” and “what” questions rather than anything else.…

When approaching this assignment, my big worry was creating something that I myself found interesting and something that students would find interesting. In my secondary education career, I remember many activities where I myself was disinterested and didn’t have a reason to care and it also seemed like in these cases the teacher also didn’t care, they just wanted to make us quiet for the class period so they could mind their own business or catch up on whatever they were behind on. Because of this, I wanted to create an assignment based on a lesson on symbolism that included not only traditional forms of symbolism in literature/artwork, but also one that included references to pop culture and film. In addition, giving students a choice in what to write about based on what’s personally important to them.…
