My teacher, who’s name I have regrettably forgotten, standing above us all doing her best to try and get us to learn key words in the English language and understand the difference between closely related words such as “he” and “she” would always ensure that no matter what background we came from or what language we started speaking before English if that was not our first, that we would all leave with a better grasp and understanding. How can I be so sure? Well there is a bit of math behind it. Many people will be gone from their homes for about eight hours a day during the weekdays, whether they be in school or gone off to work. Some may decide to leave their houses on the weekends as well for a few more hours, however for simplicity 's sake that time will be disregarded. For the amount of time spent sleeping, I will use the statistics gathered by the United States Department of Labor, which states that the average American over fifteen years old spends a little over seven and a half hours a day sleeping. Taking all this into account, people spend about ninety-three hours a week between sleeping and being away from their homes for work or school. As of this stage in the math one might be wondering where this is headed since people still spend a total of thirty-five hours at home with family rather than with peers. Well, this is where the scales begin to tip. Lets think for a moment about how one spends their time at home, and who they continue to interact with while at home. In modern times, many people have continued to communicate with their friends through text messages or other means, adding up to them spending equal to or more time at home communicating with friends rather than family.
