My Reflection On Teaching At Connersville Middle School

Reflecting on Teaching During my time at Connersville Middle School, I feel that I have grown as a teacher. I have enjoyed my experience and feel that I have really grown into a teacher by accepting the responsibilities of a teacher. Each day I cannot wait to get into the classroom and I have gained trust and formed relationships with my students and the staff of the building. After completing my teach week and being in the classroom the past couple of months I now have the anticipation of wanting to be in my classroom and teaching my own class and I can’t wait until spring semester where I get the opportunity to teach for a large chunk of time in a classroom that becomes mine. I feel that I have progressed in a number of the InTASC …show more content…
The first-day students learned from a PowerPoint and lecture that was led by me while students took notes/answered questions and they would be able to answer the questions from the PowerPoint, lecture, or discussion. Students who are able to learn from a lecture and a teacher-led class learned from this information. The next day students watched a series of video clips and students summarized the videos as we watched the videos and in between the videos I led a discussion to talk about the video. I believe this lesson helped students who learn better by watching videos rather than listening to the teacher lecture. The third day I put students in partners and I had students with higher grades and higher reading levels working with students who had lower reading levels and they worked together to maximize performance. This lesson helped students who learn from peer work and high achieving students learned from helping lower achieving students and lower achieving students learned from a peer rather than a teacher. The fourth-day students were put into groups of three and four and they got the chance to discuss and debate important issues with each other. Students were able to think critically and hear …show more content…
After each period and day, I reflected on my teaching and student’s ability to grasp the content that was being taught. I reflect on myself as a teacher as often as I can so I can improve as a teacher because I want to be the best teacher I can be. I recorded myself teaching every day and I watched the videos at the end of each day so I can reflect on how I moved around the room, my instructional and direction delivery, my engagement with the students, along with all other aspects of teaching. I really enjoyed watching myself teach so I could improve. Collaboration is also something I used every day. Connersville Middle School uses “teaming” which is something that allows all teachers that have my students throughout the day sit down and discuss what is going on in their classroom for the week. This is a daily meeting. I used this time to figure out what I could do to improve as a teacher and get feedback and information from other teachers in the building. These meeting sometimes includes the school counselor which allows the teachers to know what kind of personal issues our students may be going through. Collaboration and reflection are standards that I have met diligently because I believe they are key to becoming a successful

1 I come from a long line of educators and administrators on both sides of my family. Various relatives of mine have taught me to understand and appreciate the importance of education. This being the case, they have inspired my decision to be a teacher, preferably an elementary school teacher. Last year, I sat in on my aunt’s third grade class at Washington Irving, an elementary school in my district that I attended for three years. After visiting the classroom a handful of times, I absolutely fell in love. I, then, found my passion and decided I wanted to be an elementary school teacher.…

They all commented on how they enjoyed to reading, working with lego’s, ocean counters, math flash cards, and using the white boards. This group is definitely a hands-on group of learners and very interactive. They commented on how they learned more after the lesson from the results of their post-text. They really liked knowing they are smarting now knowing their numbers 1-10 and being able to tell me which number is greater than, less than, or equal too. The timing of the feedback redirected them or set them on the correct path. Focusing on the positive encouraged them more, asking for their thoughts was another positive because they figured it out themselves and took pride in this achievement. Having them focus on the important learning targets, oral conversation instead of written commentary from me. Proving suggestions allowed them to think critically about what they were doing. They would compare their work to the task given, and describe their work, express freely their observation, and in an open forum with…

I want to be the teacher they will always remember, fondly i hope, and if no one else is there, I want to be there for them. I won't ever give up on…

During my time at Brooks Elementary School, I was able to observe seven different teachers. However, I spent three of my ten days with a wonderful Kindergarten teacher. This was her first year in Kindergarten, and she was filling in for a teacher on leave. While in her classroom I was able to observe many different activities. She would begin the day with a letter to her class explaining what they would be doing that day. The class would review words, parts of a sentence, and was able to be prepared for the day ahead of them. The students in her class really enjoyed this and I felt that it really started the day in the right direction.…

I tried my best to engage in interactive conversations with the students. My whole class was basically ruling, not only me the teacher. Something very important during my lessons was differentiation, meeting all student’s needs. I differentiated in at least four classrooms elements based on student readiness, interest, and learning profile. I differentiated in content presenting ideas through both auditory and visual means, putting text materials on Power point presentations and sound, re-teaching an idea or skill for struggling learners, and extending the thinking or skills for advanced learners. I also differentiated in process because I used tiered activities through which all learners worked with the same important understanding and skills, but proceeded with different levels of support, challenge, and complexity, I offered manipulatives or other hands-on supports for students who needed them. I provided a safe learning environment, provided materials that reflect a variety of cultures and home settings, I set out clear guidelines for independent work, and my classroom was quiet and without…

The text to be analyzed is “The Process of Exploration” and it provides some techniques for teachers to explore their classroom experiences and to have a critical reflection on teaching practices. The authors of this book, Richards and Lockhart, encourage teachers to reflect in a critical way about their own teaching process and their own personal experiences, and they mention several ways in which teachers can explore their own teaching performance, and use the information they obtain as a basis for critical reflection on teaching practices.…

I'm Jennifer Bardon and I attend Washington Middle School. I feel strongly that teachers should be graded on how well they teach. Its only fair that students get to do this because schools are all about equal opportunities. The technique each individual teacher has to teaching varies. It's evident that every student has a teacher that they like more or less and sometimes there's large quantities of students that prefer a teacher more than any of the other ones.…

In many lessons students work together in groups. This incorporated the Cooperative Learning teaching as well as the communicative language teaching. This was displayed when students were working on a story for their english class. Students who were more proficient in English read the paper of their peers and made corrections and suggestions in order to make the paper stronger. This assignment got students talking and working together just like we discussed in class. The teacher also displayed Content based teaching when the class read and completed a short packet about Abraham Lincoln. This was teaching them about an important part of American history while also teaching new important vocabulary words to students. Throughout the two days I visited the classroom the teacher also displayed multiple intelligences. Many assignments incorporated different learning styles. Reading was used in many assignments and students got to read with the teacher and listen to the teacher read. Visuals were used throughout the classroom and were used in lessons. Short videos and film were incorporated into lessons. Visuals in the classroom also included important words and vocabulary scattered throughout the classroom. Students also got a chance to reflect on personal experience and incorporate their culture into lessons. Many of the students came from different backgrounds and countries and often got to incorporate that in the classroom. Students also got to work together on many occasions throughout the two days I visited. Many of the intelligences were met in each lesson performed by the…

As a teacher we should look back on our performance and think what was good and what was not good and lead to a failure. It is highly important for practitioners in TESOL to make conscious decisions in order to make lesson successful. “This is because teaching is a profession in which demanding situations arise on a daily basis.”(Schön, 1983) There are no certain rules to follow to make your lesson efficacious because classroom environment is changing rapidly and you have to fit in and decide ‘on the spot’ very often. Reflection gives you opportunity to correct yourself and to become a better teacher. While doing that, you develop your skills in decision making and problem…
