Reflection Paper The HLSC 1701U course focuses heavily on the Publication Manual of the American Psychological Association, an APA writing manual for students and educators. Johnson guided the students on different aspects of the writing process like applicable in-text citations, proper formatting and maintaining academic integrity. At the beginning of the semester, I had a lot of anxiety over the impending course work, but now I can truthfully say, this is one of my easiest classes. Johnson made it excessively easy for the students to write their final essay with the help of his informative lesson plan. My personal strengths with the essay writing is being consistent with the APA formatting and citation, and staying on topic when reflecting …show more content…
The key values associated with academic integrity are cheating and plagiarism (UOIT Academic Integrity Student Guide, 2016). Johnson provided us with excellent resources to avoid these scenarios. In the second week, he discussed how to use the appropriate in-text citations for certain research resources for our paper. One of the main in-text citations I use in my essay are research articles, he provided helpful resources on how to reference it properly with varying number of authors (American Psychological Association, 2009). The annotated bibliography provided a solid base for my essay citations, I felt confident adding more sources towards my final paper and knowing I could cite them properly. Additionally, Johnson encouraged us to paraphrase our sources, so we would not be flooding the essay with quotation marks. Paraphrasing means rearranging the source material into your own words, it is typically shorter than the original source and condenses the information slightly authors (American Psychological Association, 2009). On the other hand, quotations mean it is identical to the writing in the original source authors (American Psychological Association, 2009). When I paraphrased my sources, I acquired deeper knowledge about the research article compared to copying and pasting
