Reflective Reflection In Storytelling

Reflection Storytelling has become an important part of an elementary school curriculum (Kang & Crandall, 2014). It is encouraged for the student teacher to have the experience of carrying out storytelling to pupils (Richard & Nunan, 1996). Therefore, on 11st August, my group of 6 people had carried out a storytelling session to 15 pupils from SK Bangsar. The title of our story was “The tale of a monkey and a crab”. In this storytelling session, I was the script writer and the storyteller. Thus, I would like to reflect on my experience as the script writer and the storyteller in this essay. This reflective essay also discusses about the strengths and weaknesses of the storytelling session. It could be shown through my good facial expressions. My tone of voice matches the different parts of the story such as high tone to emphasize some important lines. My confident and the right tone voices helped me build a good relationship with the pupils. The pupils were comfortable with the storyteller and they responded well to the questions posted by the storyteller. Besides, the effective questioning method of the storyteller also helps to initiate responses from the pupils. However, my voice projection was not loud enough. Furthermore, I should use a more natural pace to tell the story instead of a slower pace. I also had some minor mistakes of grammar and pronunciation.
Throughout the storytelling session, I learnt that a story should not be too long. It must be simple and well-organised. Most importantly, the role of the storyteller is very important and she should not be shadowed by the actor and actresses acting. Furthermore, the pacing of the storyteller should be natural so they the pupils will get used to the pacing in their daily
