In addition, reflective practice is a method of analysing your own experiences that will ultimately improve the way you work (Daly, Speedy & Jackson, 2014, p. 120). Reflective practice is a very important process for everyone, especially in the career of nursing. In addition, there are two types of reflection, which are: reflection-on-action and reflection-in-action (Daly, Speedy & Jackson, 2014, p. 120). Reflection-on-action is a means of studying and analysing an event after it has took place, whereas reflection-in-action occurs during the same time as the event (Daly, Speedy & Jackson, 2014, p. 120). In addition to reflective practice being important to nurses, it is also beneficial to their self-awareness. To begin with, the reason why reflective practice is so important to nurses is because it helps them know and understand their actions, which in turn improves their communication and allows their intellectual and personal skills to grow (Tashiro et al, 2013). Not only reflective practice improves communication and intellectual skills, but it also allows nurses to deal with more challenging situations in the future. This is due to the fact that reflective practice improves your decision making and the way you work by constantly analysing past events. Also, another reason why reflective practice is beneficial to nurses is that if they make a mistake in their workplace, such as injecting a drug into a patient incorrectly, they can reflect back on it by evaluating and analysing their mistakes, ultimately improving the way they work in the future. Therefore, it is clear that reflective practice is vital process in life and that it should be used by everyone, especially nurses.
In my future nursing career, I believe that reflective practice will be essential to my development as a nurse for the reason that it will help the way I work and how I approach new challenges
