    1. After reflecting on who or what event provided me with leadership influence I concluded there wasn’t one person or one event that has had the most effect on me to strive to become a better leader or person for that matter. Many of my past supervisors and present alike have been good and bad with more good than bad. I attempt to take pieces from each of their leadership qualities, use things I liked and stayed away from their “bad” leadership qualities I did not believe helped me grow as a leader or produce quality jobs or mission results. All the while, my own personality and beliefs intertwined with their leadership styles to make me who I am today as a leader.…

For the past two summers I have worked alongside the vice president of Cape Pond Ice. I was employed as his assistant and I made sure to take careful notice in everything he did on a day-to-day basis as I rode alongside him in the thirty-foot long box truck. For every interaction and every sale I made it clear that I wanted to know more and to be involved. This past spring I was called into the office for a meeting to discuss the upcoming summer. At the meeting we were told the vice president was leaving to obtain bigger and better opportunities.…

The aspect of leadership that I need to focus most on improving is that of having the ability to balance work, school, and time with my family. I find that a great deal of the time I spend at home is spent working on schoolwork. This unbalance takes away from time that I should be spending with my husband and children and often leaves me feeling overwhelmed. Many people have the tendency to procrastinate on projects, and find them having to rush to do these tasks at the last minute. A big part of my problem is feeling that I need to complete assignments as soon as they are given.…

The knowledge I’ve gained during my time in the Intermediate Leadership Experience course has made me realize that I am a Management by Exception-Passive leader. I think I’m a passive leader because after I let my subordinates know what the standard is and how I expect them to behave; I do little to help them improve or excel. I also know that I’ve failed to provide honest feedback in the early stages of negative behavior. This eventually led to my leadership realizing that standards were not being maintained, which prompted me to have to correct that behavior. Now that I am aware of my shortcomings as a supervisor and a Non-Commissioned Officer (NCO), I plan to use the concepts from this course to work towards becoming a transformational leader over the next 3-5 years.…

In this way, I hope to become a leader more personally connected with the team, and one who leads from a position of humility rather than from one of authority.
