The nursing profession carries high standards of care, and reflective practice is one the ways of assisting nurses with reviewing their practice and ensuring it is continuously satisfactory. Throughout this essay the concept of reflective practice, how it can benefit nurses will be reviewed, and a personal reflection of traits will be conducted and further incorporated into constructing a career’s plan.

My skill set includes: compassion, communication skills, empathy, persistence, organisation, resilient, critical thinker, adaptability and I have an understanding of what is required from the Nursing and Midwifery Board Australia (NMBA). These set of skills are not reflections solely made by myself, but also by people close to me. For it is essential that reflections are not conducted individually but are also directed by other people to provide new insight. Seeing as an outside observation can provide a different and fresh perspective. For instance, when a patient is going through a hard time I will use some of my attributes such as compassionate and empathy, this will help with establishing and maintaining a therapeutic relationship with the patient (NMBA, 2017). Another example of my attributes assisting me as a registered nurse is using my critical thinking skills to assist me in making decisions while practicing (NMBA, 2017). In order for me to achieve this I have put forth a career plan. I have started my Bachelor of Nursing (BN) this year and will complete it in 3 years (2020) if I continue doing full time study. This degree will act as the foundation in my plan, as I will learn essential concepts such as anatomy and physiology, medical terminology, the care I need to provide patients with and all the other basic concepts needed to be a nurse. Upon completing my first year placement, I will be qualified to work as an assistant in nursing (AIN). Therefore, once I complete my placement, I will ensure I work hard to attain a job in the field. It would be preferable to land a job at Seasons or Logan Hospital seeing as they are near my house. I will try my best to maintain this job all throughout my degree.
