What Is A Supervisor Reflection

Improved Essays
I had a painful and difficult experience with my supervisor when I was the business office manager in the CU Psychology department, and the situation turned out to be a major catalyst for me leaving the world of full-time employment. The scenario was that two employees I supervised arrived to work at their normal time, on a day that CU had a 2-hour delayed start due to weather. They were safe and I did not feel their choices required immediate attention, nor was I aware of a policy regarding such a situation, so I let them both know we would touch base the following day, as I was not in the office that day. However, my supervisor was extremely displeased with their choices, and decided to have a meeting with them, in spite of my request for her to wait until I was back in the office. The meeting unfortunately did not go well, from all perspectives, leaving the two employees feeling …show more content…
He discussed boundary issues and self-differentiation, which I know I struggle with, and how this can stem from one’s family of origin and bonding difficulties (McNeal, 2000). I think in the incident with my supervisor, I was projecting issues I was having with my family, onto her. She was eliciting similar feelings that my family does, and I acted defensively, which I should have recognized. I am now able to realize that during this situation, not only did I ignore doing self-awareness checks, but I also did not regularly turn to God for His help. Therefore, today, I would apply these principles and change my strategy. I was also reminded that ownership and forgiveness are key in moving forward out of conflict. As a result, I have been inspired to write an apology letter to my past supervisor for my behavior. I know I cannot change the past, but I can try to offer some healing and

In order for one to successfully navigate throughout his or her life, he or she would have been required to subjugate multiple transitions, hardships, and developmental realizations. Transitions such as the beginning of elementary school or moving away from home for the first time. Hardships that include losing a loved one or being separated from one’s family for an extended period of time. Developmental realizations such as one having realized he or she is 30 years old, then 40, then 50, or the manner in which an individual dealt with the aging process. Jerry Lawler, whom I interviewed over the phone, experienced numerous transitions, hardships, and realizations throughout his life.…

Additionally, from this week’s reading I will provide examples of how the content applies to my personal spiritual journey. Lastly, I will provide my ideas of how this week’s reading will apply to my future human services career. This week’s reading included chapters nine and ten from the textbook, “Religious and Spiritual Aspects of Human Service Practice” written by James W. Ellor, F. Ellen Netting, and Jane M. In the beginning of Roberta M. Gilberts textbook Extraordinary Relationships: A New Way of Thinking About Human Interactions (1992), she argues “In the realm of the purely personal - after food, water, and shelter - the quality of relationships most often determines the quality of life” (p. 3). I believe this statement perfectly sums up how vital and necessary human relationships are for human life, and the strong impact they play on having a positive and meaningful life. There were several concepts presented throughout chapters 1 - 12. They were each of equal importance and each greatly impacts the understanding of relationships. In order to have a purposeful life and a greater understanding of relationships, there are many crucial concepts that must be understood, three of them are differentiation of self, thinking systems, and the relationship pattern of cutoff.…

Its spring of 2003, my grandmother had been babysitting me while my parents left to go to work for the day. Towards 5 o’clock, my mother walked into the door. I was greeted with an enormous hug filled with love and affection. Shortly after she arrived, my father stopped by the house. He welcomed everyone in the room with love and happiness, but what I thought was all hugs and kisses turns into a heated controversy.…

Reflective Paper My experiences both positive and negative in nature have led to the beliefs and attitudes that I hold regarding culturally competent counseling. Because awareness is the central attribute of the culturally competent counselor, I myself must strive to increase my awareness through evaluating my assumptions, biases, attitudes, beliefs, and behaviors in a manner that will allow me to grow and change adaptively in a professional climate. Gaining deeper personal insight through self-reflection and challenging my ways of thinking is not optional when it comes to being an effective, culturally competent counselor. It is instead a requirement and something I undoubtedly underestimated when entering this course and considering the counseling…

Each Sunday for eight weeks, out of respect for the mourning traditions of Vietnamese Buddhists, my family and I spent two hours at the Chua Tu Lam Temple in San Jose to pray for the safety and happiness of my grandfather in heaven. In spite of the ritual, I couldn’t mourn my grandfather. My too-recent memories of him only brought tears to my eyes, and I worried that this would depress my family further. As my parents knelt with folded hands, I forced myself to shove my emotions deeper inside. Throughout this period of mourning, and for two additional months, I constantly lied to myself about the pain.…

For this reflection, the assigned reading was from Difficult Conversations by Douglas Stone, Bruce Patton, and Sheila Heen. The first part of this chapter broke down difficult conversations into three different conversations, including conversations about the mistake or issue, how each person feels about the issue, and how the conflict makes each party feel about themselves. The conversation about what happened is exactly like it sounds, each party tries to figure out who made the mistake and who is to blame. The feelings conversation examines how each person is feeling and if those feelings are valid and if they should be acknowledged or ignored. Finally, the identity conversation, is a harder conversation that each side has with themselves.…

Keynote speaker, Clint Smith speaks on the “Dangers of Silence” through the reflection of his own failures to tell the basic, everyday truth. When we hear the word danger, we typically think straight of the actions committed by others that are grave and deadly. Mr. Smith, a writer, and teacher brought an entirely new meaning to the meaning of silence. Clint states that the pure act of silence being recognized as serene causes more danger than any good. He teaches the audience that when we are dealing with controversial issues that demand action from the public, we divert ourselves to keep hushed and automatically become muted in order to avoid the issue at hand.…

Essay: It is during our darkest moments that we must focus to see the light. Introduction: If miracles have ever happened, they have happened in adversity; if warriors have ever won, they have won in warship; if discoverers have ever discovered, they have discovered in a painful encounter; if they have ever emerged, it is because they had never vanished. All the great accomplishments of men and women were achieved owing to their spirit of 'never give up.' Sooner or later, darkest moments befall upon each and every individual: rich or poor; younger or older, worker or leader, but the most positive aspect of darkest moments is that they do not last for good and all.…

Edgar Allen Poe is an American writer that is world renown for his dark writing style, which allows the reader to be engulfed into his tales of horror and mystery. The Cask of Amontillado is a classic Poe style story that is littered with unexpected twists and turns around every corner. The reader is able to watch from afar as the main character seeks revenge against his “friend” Fortunato. Poe’s ability to create a character like Montresor amazes me because of the unique way in which he reveals the main characters poor mental health without directly stating that he is insane. The gradual realization of this is what makes the story so unique to Poe’s style.…

Defined as a regard for one’s own happiness and advantage, self-love is the most fundamentally essential foundation to living life freely. The statement one cannot love another if he/she does not love thyself holds substantial truths that became personally evident as I transpired from one area of life to another. As a child growing up in the slums of Nigeria, Self-love was not a profound aspect of my day to day life, but that all changed when I relocated to the United States. Obliviousness and a humongous family were crucial features of my childhood that obscured my exposure to self-love. Cultural facets like female inferiority, violence, and domestic abuse became the inescapable normative that seemed far too inessential to expound on…

The issue is does not come from hate, but a playful attitude. Before the interviews took place the student thought his sarcasm was no more than a joke that no one was bothered by, but this view was radically changed after the interviews took place.
