After community health I then moved out rurally where I began working at a small Multi purpose healthcare centre in Blackwater, 3 hour drive away from a main hospital this was an experience that much like ED has shaped my understanding and given me more drive and motivation in my current role to assist and support these rural facilities as much as possible. I can recall during cyclone Debbie having no limited generator power, with a cardiac patient, two labour patients and one birth (Blackwater is not a birthing hospital) however, Ambulances were unable to transport patients due to the roads being blocked, Royal Flying Doctors Service were unable to fly aero-planes due to the wind, and all staff were doing almost 18 hour shifts due to staff being unable staff to drive in or out of town, it is in these moments you really all pull together as a team and do what you can. However, being a city girl born and bred, even describing such a situation seems like something only out of a book but this is something that happens on a semi regular
