Throughout high school and now college, I always look for ways to put my free time to good use. I love to volunteer and help people who are not always as fortunate as myself. I am especially lucky to be getting the education I am getting right now. At my current school, Hartwick College, I am an active member in multiple clubs. Most notably I am apart of Hartwick College Association of Student Nurses (HCASN). In this club we focus on volunteering our time at our school and in the community. I also donate my time when I am home. Over spring break I donated a great deal of my spring clothes to those less fortunate. Realizing that my siblings and I have so many clothes that we do not wear or grown out of,

I have donated time in my city, state, country and internationally. Through the many opportunities that I have had for community service, I have been able to broaden my views, and look outside my community at how others experience our world. I have visited very diverse communities ranging from the inner city of Detroit, MI to a small, economically depressed village in Honduras, to the mountains of Pennsylvania and inside homes very different from mine in my own…

In the past few years, I’ve volunteered with a variety of organizations from National Honor Society, National Spanish Honor Society, and Key Club. I have also co-founded a Community Outreach Club at high school. Through the Church I’ve assisted with Vacation Bible School and middle school retreats. One of my favorite memories came from volunteering for the first time with National Spanish Honor Society. Choosing to participate in this program was not a difficult decision, since I knew I wanted to continue practicing my Spanish and volunteer in the community at the same time.…

I was able to volunteer at a local bank that was sponsoring the Lake Park Elementary School for the holiday season. The school has over 300 underprivileged students between the ages of kindergarten and fifth grade. Most of the students at that school only have one meal per day. Along with other volunteers, I packaged bags that contained candy, toys, toiletries, a blanket, and a pair of athletic shoes. The bags were able to provide the children with goods that we often take for granted.…

In order to raise money for prom this year, I accompanied the class of 2019, for 5.5 hours, to a west point game and worked in concessions. I had a great experience working with my peers to achieve a goal that would benefit the senior class. Recently I have engaged in service with my church, for 4 hours, helping to move furniture while they were switching locations. From this experience I learned that sacrificing my time for a communal effort may seem minuscule, but ultimately helps increase efficiency. Also I volunteered at the annual Easter egg hunt at memorial park last weekend for 3.5 hours.…

I have been volunteering at my local library ever since my high school career has begun. Over the summer, I motivate little kids to read: I convince them to comprehend the various stories read, and in return they are rewarded with various prizes. During the weekends, I assist children with the material they may be struggling with in school. Every now and then, a few kids would bring in their homework, while others brought in either textbooks or their notes.…

The community college I currently attend has been helpful these past few years, However, I feel I have reached an ending point. There are not a lot of networking opportunities available to me, nor are there other beneficial classes for my goals. I feel I have used all the resources available there and wish to open myself for further growth. I want to be able to teach or offer support for others who struggle emotionally and academically in the world, and I feel I would be better able to surpass this with a higher education. Along with this, I feel the need to surround myself with different types of people who both share and are different from my views in a supportive and conducive environment.…

I have volunteered for a lot of projects at my school that helps with giving back to the community through education. Such as providing students who are less fortunate with items they need in school such a new pencils or books. I’ve been making the effort to make time to volunteer with more services that pertain to children. Their lives are just starting and we can teach them more at an early age so that they can use it for the rest of their lives.
