Reflective Essay: Why I Chose My Writing Class

Dust accumulated on this object, as it had sat for a couple years in a bookcase tucked away from sight. As the remnants of dust were blown and then wiped off its cover, it began to be reread again. My experience with taking this English Composition one course was like dusting off a dirty book, it meant having to uncover this book of knowledge after being out of school for two years. This book represented in my head, my mind after being out of school for some time, you experience day to day life and slowly forget about writing in general unless it’s basic and needed for work. Dusting off my hypothetical book was learning to annotate again, learning to be a writer and a student again and to see with both eyes open my mistakes. This assignment was difficult to choose in terms of topic, as I started writing more, adding more creative details and narrating I stopped reading my words; I listened to how it sounded in my head, instead of rereading what I wrote. As Professor Flemming said on a feedback on my rough draft, “Check paper for apostrophe use and check paper for run-on sentences.” This is an issue I still struggle with when writing, especially if I do not reread my writing I end up not seeing my mistakes with apostrophe use and rerun sentences. Peer review helped me see this issue as having other people read my writing and examine it for rerun sentences, grammar issues and apostrophe use it helped me improve as a writer. I learned in this class after getting multiple feedback on my usage of apostrophes is inappropriate and my continuing on and on sentences, I learned to look back on my writing and review it
