Reflective Essay: Why Football Is Important To Me

After nine long months of intense waiting, the big day has finally arrived. It is love at first sight! How could I have known that something so small and fragile could produce such extreme emotions in a young man of my size? Knowing what to expect could have certainly helped to ease my anxiety and provide me the confidence I needed to tackle an undertaking of this proportion. Nevertheless, no amount of reading or class preparation could prepare me for this exact moment. I know that the first few days are an intense time filled with worry and concern, so it is my responsibility to put in the hard work, dedication, and commitment necessary to safely care for the newest member of our family.

Understanding my role as center and the role of my teammates is critical. Trusting each other to do our jobs is also very important. As a team, we will experience a lot of emotional and physical ups and downs that will help us build that trust. We need to take accountability for our actions, so that every win or loss is a learning experience. In addition, because we will be faced with many challenges on and off the field, this dedication and determination is critical to our development as young men. He also said that to earn that privilege, we needed to “conduct ourselves, on and off the field, as positive role models who exemplify good character.” Additionally, he stressed the importance of developing good sportsmanship and ethics because it would teach us positive life skills needed for our future. It is his wish that we develop and use these skills to become personally successful and socially responsible. Some of the characters we are learning in football are to be respectful, trustworthy, caring, and fair.
