Reflective Essay: What Is Your Typical Thanksgiving?

Improved Essays
My typical Thanksgiving involves meeting with my family and going hiking. We leave in the morning and hike near the Simon Canyon Ruin. After we finish everyone goes home to clean up and get ready to eat. We meet at grandparent’s house and eat all the food there. Many times there are competitions to see who can eat the most ham, turkey, rolls, and so on. We all usually stay and watch the football game while eating all sorts of pie. The pies range from chocolate pie to the traditional pumpkin pie. Every year was the same for Thanksgiving, until now. The year of 2016 was an exception to my typical Thanksgiving. On November 17, 2016, my great grandma, Edith Morgan, passed away. She lived for about 97 and a half years. Her funeral was held the day before Thanksgiving and everyone was …show more content…
It was a boughten pie from Sam’s Club, and not to mention completely mushy. I can easily say that I missed having home-made pies for Thanksgiving. Then, my grandparents left and I made cinnamon rolls. I made cinnamon rolls because we used to always make cinnamon rolls the day before Thanksgiving. Then, on Thanksgiving morning we would eat cinnamon rolls before we went hiking. My favorite part of Thanksgiving is the always the hike. The day after Thanksgiving this year, I went hiking with my uncle. We went hiking because he knows that’s my favorite part about Thanksgiving. Instead of doing our normal hike we decided to do a detour. The detour took an extra hour or so. On the way back to the truck, we walked through a canyon. The canyon had a small amount of water in it and was very hard to walk through. There was hidden sinkholes all over and at one point I sunk down past my knees. When we finally made it back to the truck, we were covered in mud and very tired, but it was a great hike. In the end, it was a very different Thanksgiving. It was something I was not used to, but it made me thankful for our regular, typical

It was Thanksgiving morning and I was pretty excited because I knew that day I was going to eat a lot of delicious food. I woke up that day to help my mom make some tamales that we always make when there’s some type of holiday. The whole house had that tamale smell once we were all done with them. A few hours past and it was almost time to go to my aunt's house where we were having our Thanksgiving dinner at.…

Some things he said that were unique were that he goe down to Tennessee to visit relatives. Another would be that he usually watches sports while he eats Thanksgiving dinner with his family. When the Pilgrims and the Indians had their Thanksgiving, they didn’t…

One ritual my family experiences is having an early Thanksgiving dinner and watching the Dallas Cowboys game. The tradition starts late on the night before thanksgiving. We start by ordering pizza, and then we begin prepping dinner for Thanksgiving Day. My sister and I prepare the side dishes, while my mother, aunt and grandmother make all the main dishes and desserts. We usually stay up all night finishing dinner prep, watching television, and cracking jokes.…

Every year on Thanksgiving break I have gone to my grandparents house to stay for the week. For me this is important because my grandparents live a good ways away and I barely get to see them. This became a tradition when I moved away from where they live because that's when our other traditions ended like on wednesdays we used to meet somewhere and eat dinner but we can’t do that any more so we thought that Thanksgiving break is a good time to go see them because we have off school and they can get off work. The whole time we are up there we laugh cook and have fun together.…
