Reflective Essay: We Re Moving To The United States

"We're Moving to The United States". With those words my world was changed upside down in an instant. Having packed my bags and gotten on a plane in the space of a few days, I was whisked across the world from England to The US to start my new life. Quite a life changing experience for a child, although it was one that was definitely not regretful.

Moving to the United States has given me a much vaster view on the perspective on the world and how different cultures, even two Western one can clash so dramatically. All the small things that I was used to were considered strange here and vise versa, I adapted quickly and soon grew to love life in the US after settling down. Some of the major changes that I have experienced were the differences in Schooling, England being in a more structured state; going down separate work paths such as business or science, whilst in the US I was given A huge amount of freedom in what I wanted to study. I was overjoyed at all the new topics that I could learn and eagerly applied for a wide spectrum of classes. One of the odd things that I found was the lack of religion, although I quickly found out the US has no state religion and forbade it being taught in schools. Another major change that I experienced was the food, whilst it may seem trivial the cultural food difference was staggering to me. Everything in the US was sweetened or salty ( Even the bread!). This was a big difference to what I was used to in England, although I welcomed all the new experiences and vast variety of good food that I came across. I could go on for hours about all the minute differences that I came across moving to the US as each has come to shape who I am.

Madison O’Toole Events Every time I look in the mirror, I’m reminded of my heritage. My entire life, I’ve looked at my reflection and seen that small, square jaw, hailing from the highlands of Scotland. I’ve seen my extremely fair, pale skin, a dead giveaway for my Irish ancestry. Every day I’ve looked at the characteristic shape of my nose that I had never been able to put my finger on. For the past 18 years, I’d looked at these pieces of my lineage, knowing that I was mostly Scots-Irish, but never once thought about how they came to be.…

Coming to America and adjusting to a new culture was not easy for me or for many people who move completely to a strange country, especially when there is a language barrier. The reason why it was difficult the cultural thing in America, learning the new language, learn how you can travel from place to place not knowing people around you was very difficult to handle. Especially where I grow up everyone knows each other we all one community. To come from that culture back ground and to see how in America is very hard for us. Eventually we kind of understand and get used to it.…
